Members grohl735
Hi I've been playing guitar for about 4 or 5 years and i don't want to stop but i keep geetting more interested in playing bass all the time. My dad has an old bass which he found in his attic, it looks like an old Fender with a different neck or a copy. It's really bashed up but atleast it plays and stays in tune. When i play bass i mainly play funk and slap bass like the chilli peppers or jazz or rock. I am probably going to buy a bass guitar after my birthday at the end of the month. I was wondering if you had any advise about getting a new bass for about
Members bassplayer7770
Do you have a local shop where you can try out basses? Of the basses you mentioned, I'd be most likely to opt for the Yamaha. I love my BB3000MA. There's at least one forumite here who owns a BB415, and he's said good things about it. Peavey's old USA-made Millennium basses were very nice, but I don't know much about their BXP basses.

Members Mytola
I've got a BB415 that recieved in a trade, and It's a pretty good bass for the money. Very good build quality, and the slap sound is pretty nice as well.
Members T. Alan Smith
pics of the attic bass? Yeah, I'd like to know more about that attic bass. If it's playable and stays in tune, you'd be better off with it than a cheapo.

If it's playable and stays in tune, you'd be better off with it than a cheapo. or if it turns out to be an old fender or other sought after bass and he wants to sell it, he might be able to get a whole bass setup out of it and maybe a guitar or two as well. Members grohl735
Thanks for your help so far everyone, a few of you wanted a picture of the guitar it is really old my dad thinks it's from the 70's and the strings are probably 25 years old. Surprisingly it has roughly stayed in tune i had to tune it a little bit to get it perfect. But hopefully if i've done it ok here is a picture. thanks

Members Flâneur
I trust you don't keep it against that radiator, if it's on ... Don't forget to look at the Reviews section of this site.
Members T. Alan Smith
Bro, In a heartbeat, I would take that instrument to a reputable luthier to get fresh strings and a complete setup. If it's a Fender, it might be worth BIG $$$, so be very careful in handling it!
Members slapthefunkyfour
I trust you don't keep it against that radiator, if it's on ... +1. If the attic bass stays in tune and sounds ok, keep it. Just like they said, it will be better than any of those you listed.
Members grohl735
On the back, underneath the bolt for the neck it says model number kb 24 and serial number 100306 and i can just about see the word taiwan underneath so i pressume it was made there. Hmm...still. Prolly has plenty of mojo in her. Take it to a trusted setup guy for a thorough go thru and slap some fresh strings on her. If she's still lackluster, come back to us for some pickup recommendations. However, before that, I would investigate with your setup guy about the pots n wiring...then maybe a bridge upgrade(Gotoh 201).
