I have GAS... but first...Some money found me:) but I have some credit card debt (tough tough year, car repairs and {censored} happens stuff) with what I have now for cash plus what is coming for taxes I could get my debt down to a VERY manageable level (especially with all the gigs coming in so far in 2009, it is going to be a GOOD year)

So I was thinking I could take a little hunk of the cash and get an Acme Low B2 (wanted one for a long time now, and having a smaller cab for my Thursday night residency would be sweet) or a Chunk Systems Octavious Squeezer (I'm up to here with the tracking on my Boss SYB-3, and I really could use it for the cover bands) or spend more money on materials for my basement studio/practice space (boring)

...but I really should just pay off as much of my debt as I possibly can...Right???

Pay off your debt completely before buying gear. Buy gear with money you make with the gear if at all possible.

Live debt-free as much as humanly possible. :thu:

Hey! Someone beat me to it! :p

Honest! You may wait a little longer, but you can't beat this approach! Especially after a while, when it starts becoming easier to afford anything because of this philosophy. ;)

What's the interest rate on the card? If it were me, and if I was going to buy the cab anyway, it'd probably be worth the opportunity cost to have the cab earlier than I otherwise would have if I had waited to buy the cab. What's it going to cost, an extra $20? Big whoop, buy the cab, then pay off the card. :poke:

Kidding! I hate it when we all agree ourselves to death. :p Pay the card off and buy the cab when and only when you can pay it off in one shot.

Yup, take care of the dept first. If you absolutely HAVE to get something, Get something small that can be paid for within a month.

I couldn't afford new basses, so I gave mine facelifts with new custom pickguards. I can't afford another rig, but I'll get a pedal later this month.

I gotta tell ya- it's nice being able to sleep at nite.

Pay off the debt.

Sorry, but I have little sympathy for people who say they have wanted something "for a long time." How long is long? I've been talking myself out of a Les Paul for going on 8 years. And I've even been able to "afford" it the last two.

I'd rather spend the money on something that will grow in value (credit card debt - although it doesn't grow in a good way, which is even more motivation) rather than spend the money on something that will shrink in value (instruments, generally speaking)
