OT: Is there any software out there that can re-regionalize a DVD's contents?

I just got burned again buying a supposedly "multiple region" DVD at a local music store. It won't play in my DVD player due to regional restriction. I took it back and got another one, with the same result.

The disk will play in my computer's DVD drive, but not in the DVD player that's hooked up to the TV. I ran it through the DVD Shrink software backup procedure and re-burned it, but that didn't do any good.

I don't feel like paying a mint for a multi-regional DVD player. Is there any software that will let me re-regionalize my DVDs? I've now got three legally purchased disks that won't play due to the regional thing.

TIA

DVD Shrink will DEFINITELY take out the region setting and leave it multi-region (unless you have somehow disabled that option in the settings... have a look).

What it will NOT do, however, is change the DVD from PAL to NTSC, or something like that.

So are you sure the problem is the region setting? What message do you actually see on your TV's DVD player when you try to play it?

DVD Shrink will remove the regional restrictions, but won't change from NSTC to PAL which is probably the problem.

I have some import Silverchair DVD's and I tried to do this on DVD Shrink and it still wouldn't play on my DVD player, just the computer.

This seems to be the issue with mine too. Time to look for some product that will allow me to connect the computer's DVD drive into the TV, if it can be done.

Do you have an S-video out on your computer? Just run that into your TV and for audio use an 1/8"-RCA converter. That's what I do so I can run my music DVD's on the 55"!

Thanks for the tip! Does the S-video send the audio too, or just the picture?

Just the picture.

My HP 4 y/o laptop has an S-video out, so I hook that up to a TV input and like I said you can get a 1/8" (aka headphone sized) to RCA (red and white audio) converter for cheap at Walmart or Radio Shack and run that to your TV's audio input and everything will be on screen.

Upgrade your DVD player. I think the newer ones can play most regional dvd's. Either that or rip your dvd and burn it to the correct regional settings.

Or downgrade it. Most of the cheaper players are wide open, regoin free. They are made to work world-wide, it lowers overhead if they all can be plugged in everywhere, and work in all regions. They only need one model, not a few variations of it.

I've had grief with the odd region problem, burned DVD's and so on. The POS no name brand player from Walmart will play anything and everything I stick in it, where my "high end" Sony only plays region 1, and most mp3 discs I drop in it. Burned discs are hit and miss.

We had a similar problem with our multi-regional DVD player. We e-mailed the manufacturer, and there was a code that you had to input to make it work multi-regional. Turns out a ton of 'em don't have it setup from the factory.
