Members burnthiscorpse
This one is from Bob at the Bass palace in scranton. I know I know....but i've bought alot from him and never had a problem with him. He said i could come down and pick it up. (only way i would do it). concerned with the body being maple. His opinion was that being solid piece of quilt instead of other types of maple is that it would be warmer sounding. He said $750 cashhttp://www.gbase.com/Stores/Gear/GearDetails.aspx?Item=1985787 IMHO, its gorgeous!! I love ebony boards too. But if i cant get warm Mid rangey 68' SVT snot and grit out of it forget it.

Members bassman1956
I like the first. As long as the build quality's there, it's worth what they're asking.
Members burnthiscorpse
well, some people have had awful business deals with bob, but not me. bought my D-180 from him. A 1980 ric 4001s and a Pedulla buzz. never bull{censored}ted me. He says the look and feel are to die for. like butter. I'm concerned with the sound. very intrigued by the alembic set up. never heard those pups. worried it will be snappy and bright from the wood. Members burnthiscorpse
actually G&L guru's.....whats that L2000 worth? reasonable wise?
Members Dave Campbell
If that Signature G&L L2000 goes for less than $800, it's a steal. Call the cops. The G&L JB2... if you really like the idea of Alembic pickups, Fatdawg at Subway Guitars in San Francisco is a BIG fan of Alembic electronics and pickups, and the {censored} he throws together uses them almost exclusively, or at least used to. Look him up. The Warmoth... jeebus... a one piece quilted AAA maple body. That body alone is worth the $750. You could part that bass out and make a few hundred, I'll bet. Members Dave Campbell
It does have a tone control.... Yeah... well at least not as bright as if it had a maple board as well. Hey, man... won't know until you try it hey? Wonder what BassPalace has for amps.
Members burnthiscorpse
I'm a mahogany, walnut, korina, ash guy. especially mahogany. I think it would be too far out of what i dig tonaly. and i would really wanna buy it cause of the look and the ebony board.
Members burnthiscorpse
i'm not gonna {censored} anyone, i know nothing about alembic electronis/pups. are they known for being bright? As far as amps, Bob isnt "open" . I would be going to his house to get it. so he may have dick to play through. Theres a Lakland Skyline local too but its $695. seems high. Members Dave Campbell
This past summer I sprung for a mahogany Jazz body, which I had them finish in Antigua..., and mated it to an Allparts maple boarded neck with pearloid blocks, and Quarter pounder pickups - parts from a previous project. It's a whole other animal in terms of tone. It got kind of lost in the shuffle because two months later I picked up a Signature Jazz copy from a guy on Talkbass for $470, shipped to me in Canada.Audere preamp, Quarter pounders, Black/black, maple w black blocks. It's a machine. The Warmoth mahogany Jazz is getting no love right now, despite the coin I spent on it. Funny how things work out.

If i had the coin right now i would just build a warmoth Jazz with a P/J pup config. either all korina, or korina body, walnut neck, or reverse that. macassar ebony board:love: . it would easily get into $1500 though. Members Death Hands
L2000 or tribby jazz. You keep talking about tone. What are you into tonally?
Members burnthiscorpse
L2000 or tribby jazz. You keep talking about tone. What are you into tonally? Think Allan Woody, Jack Bruce, Geezer Butler, Jerry Scheff. Any of those tones depending on the type of music being covered/written. Those are also my biggest playing Influences as far as style. I'm going to get another EB so that covers Jack bruce. I dont really want to spend a ton on another T-Bird although i should just do it and be done. I'm a gibson bass fan boi. but i love usa Fender J's and many others too. EBMM sterling, G&L, ect. I love the snotty old school tone i can pull from my Climax 4. I run my D-180 on channel 2, bass around 5.5-6, mid 6.5-7, treb 3-4. dont use the graphic. run the channel volume up as high as i think i need it to growl or fully distort, then adjust the master accordingly. I dont think the Warmoth is for me, its just so though. I want it to be, but i doubt it would work.
Members burnthiscorpse
BTW......As i'm looking at G&L's specs for new basses they have the L2000 as having 1 3/4" nut width?? would that be correct ? I was apparently under the impression that the L2000 was for the most part a 2 pup version of my current bass. if its that wide at the nut its definatley out for sure. It would be a SB2 or JB2 that i would need to get. dammit, i didnt realize that.
Members 82Daion
Allan Woody, Jack Bruce, Geezer Butler, Jerry Scheff Much as I like the Alembic sound, that Jazz probably won't cop that tone too well. I'd go for the L2K if that's the sound you're after.

Either a '51 RI with a Lindy Fralin overwound or a '57 RI or just a MIA. Theres a mid 80's G&L SB-1 on Talkbass, but I can't remember how much it was going for.
