Members Bluescout
I don't know what guidelines they have. I was told they pay 2/3 value for equipment. I always haggle but never ask for a huge discount. #6 and WashburnGuy what store are you close to? The closest to me is the Shrewsbury but I've bought more from the Manchester NH store. Members rpsands
Those Ampeg combos are {censored}. Seriously. {censored} features. No attenuator for the tweeter in most cases. Also, they're quiet, and super super muddy. The B50R and B100R sound a lot better now that I've tried them. You might want to check those out. If you're open to other brands, I'd look at Ashdown, Peavey or Gk for cheap bass combos.

Members J.
They offered me 25 dollars for a SX P bass......I didnt even bother to haggle That's about right. They'd probably price it at $75 for a quick sale and put it on the sales floor. They really jack up the margin on some lower tier stuff.
Members rpsands
I just wanted to reiterate that you should under no circumstances waste your money on those {censored}ty combos. You can do much, much better even for super cheap.

Members rpsands
You can get the GK backline 112 for 199 at GC right now (sale). That will blow the Ampeg out the water Those Ampeg Ba combos should be about half of the posted prices, and they should remove those useless piezos for free. Members WashburnGuy
I don't know what guidelines they have. I was told they pay 2/3 value for equipment. I always haggle but never ask for a huge discount. #6 and WashburnGuy what store are you close to? The closest to me is the Shrewsbury but I've bought more from the Manchester NH store. I'm near the Warwick, RI store. I've been a customer of theirs since they opened. Always been treated right, never been burned. Have been on a first name basis with every store manager. I usually prefer to deal directly with them since any haggling has to be approved by them anyway so, I'd just as soon cut out the middle man. The current Managers name is Mark and he's a straight shooter. He really does try to do his best to make the numbers work so that both parties get a decent deal. There's also a new (young and kind of pretty) girl named Natalie working there now too that I've had a couple of dealings with lately. She's sharp, intelligent and I doubt this is her first paper route because the girl knows her gear. I think they may be training her to be a manager at another store because her badge says "Trainee" but she's obviously had some experience in musical instrument sales. I've done ALOT of trading in and up at Daddy's. They generally will give you 50% of whatever price they're going to tag it for. I believe they use some type of a Blue Book for determining trade in value. It also depends on how much you're planning on spending as well. If you're planning to spend a good amount of money, that gives them a little more room to work with. One thing I've found with their used gear is SOMETIMES the prices listed online for a particular item does not agree with the tagged price of the actual in-store item. I recently got my son a Line 6 practice amp that was listed on their website at $89. The actual tagged price in the store was $39.......if you're careful and take your time, there are some real bargains to be had. Lately, I'm becoming more and more disillusioned with GC and starting to go back to Daddy's more often. I'd say my ONLY knock on Daddy's is their product line is somewhat limited but, being a small regional chain, I'm sure they don't have the volume buying power but all in all, I have to say my experiences with them have been good. Members Nxt Lvl
Daddy's is a sweatshop. With that said, I have bought more gear there than anywhere else, usually in their Portland, ME and Portsmouth, NH stores. They don't give $hit for trade-ins, but then again no shops do these days due to the fact they all match on-line pricing. With the economy in the crapper, I would say any salesman is willing to haggle.
Members WashburnGuy
With the economy in the crapper, I would say any salesman is willing to haggle. Absolutely disagree! Tried to haggle for price/accessories at the local GC for my recently acquired Squier VM Fretless Jazz and they didn't want to hear it. The price as marked is the price. No accessories, no freebies included. Went across the street to Daddy's and while they wouldn't haggle on price, I did get them to throw an almost new TKL HSC when I bought the VM fretless. That's one of the reasons I'm starting to do more business with D's JM again. FWIW....they're ALL sweatshops! Know anybody that's ever retired after a career at GC or any other music store? Members flatcat
I've gotten some pretty good deals on a variety of pieces, especially microphones. I usually buy through Shrewsbury as well, since it's down the street. I've been tempted to trade in some things, and have done that with some small items - but not with anything big. I've been tempted recently - but I won't. I like Daddy's. I'd much prefer to give the dough to the locals than to GC. I do miss E.U. Wurlitzer though. I don't know what kind of gear you're considering trading but, there's not much musical gear they won't consider as a trade. I've even gathered up a whole bunch of odds and ends (old pedals, hardware, etc.....) to use for trade purposes. Granted, it didn't add up to much but most of the stuff had been just gathering dust anyway so I managed to turn it into a few bucks to help keep the purchase price of new gear down. Try to pull that off at GC!
Members #6
ahhh...E.U. When I was looking to buy an amp I knew I liked the GK1001rbII but figured I'd try the Ampeg B100R before pulling the trigger. I figured maybe I'd save a few bucks. I have a BA112 that's a nice little amp. I had Daddys order the 100R and waited a month for it to come in. It sounded really nice. It had that nice warm Ampeg sound. But while I was trying it out I couldn't help but notice that something was rattling inside the cabinet. The salesman at first tried to tell me it was something on the amp, maybe a screw. But the more you listened the more you could tell it was the speaker. The amp just didn't seem to be very strurdy and god knows what was rattling on the speaker. I bought the GK and am very happy with it.
Members guitargod0dmw
I used to love Daddy's...but their stock quality has seriously gone down hill. I remember like 10-15 years ago they really only carried used stuff, and had some new stuff lying around, but not too much. The used stuff was really cool things, some hard to find. Then they started carrying more and more new items...and now their stores are chock full of beginner stuff, and maybe a few cool items here or there. Tried to haggle for price/accessories at the local GC for my recently acquired Squier VM Fretless Jazz and they didn't want to hear it. The price as marked is the price. Members Nxt Lvl
I pretty much buy at my local hometown shop. I go to GC or Daddy's when I am in the city and play their gear that has been handled by hundreds of sweaty palms, and then buy what I want at my local place for the same or slightly higher price. When I walk in I am greeted by name.

Exactly......and that's a good part of the reason I've started doing business at DJM again. If I'm going to pay full sticker price for a piece of gear, I want to get SOMETHING more out of the deal. A gig bag, strap, strings.......just a little something as a "bonus". Makes me feel like they truly appreciate my business. In all honesty, I believe the "no haggle" policy is a result of everyone doing their comparative price shopping online then going to the brick and mortar stores to wheel and deal. They've already done the price comparisons for you. In the long run, I think it benefits us musicians because it helps keep the prices honest.
