Gear that brings a smile

Do you ever get a piece of gear that the minute you turn it on it puts a smile on your face because the tones you had in your head for years were the exact tones you wanted? I got 2 recently. A '71 (I think) Fender Princeton and early this morning I unpacked a Roland JV-1080. I turned it on and 3 presets in I had a grin a mile wide. I've heard it in movies and on CDs. Way cool. Why had I waited so long to get a good sound module like this one? I'm stoked. And yes I know I don't have this gear, because I don't have pics. Those will have to be taken this weekend.

So what's the special gear you got recently?

It's not new, but my Yamaha BB3000MA has always just felt and sounded great, and I've always known it was a keeper.

Recently, I purchased a used Peavey Pro Bass 500 head, and, so far, I'm really very happy with it. I've yet to play it through my Avatar 410, though, so I'm really looking forward to rocking that rig with a band soon. I'm amazed how good it sounds and how loud it is, and the EQ is very versatile. I think it will be WAY better than my old Eden WT400 IMHO.

not the sound... but my SO picked up a steinberger yesterday. it's so tiny i wal lol'ing at him all night. i seriously cant even look at it without smiling. it's not possible. and it sounds pretty good too.

you have no idea how small these things are till you see/play one irl.. it could literally fit inside his LP.

My upright makes me happy... with three pickups, active two-channel preamp, and a 500 watt rig to back it up. I've had other bassist's call it a "science project" with all the cables and electronics hanging off of it.

Hook it to a Markbass LMII > 215 rig, and it sounds big and organic. It has a very natural sound and drive as it starts to get the low-Hz feedback. The feedback is the string ringing, and makes a cool overdrive that always gives me a chill (followed by a big dumb grin).:thu:

The only gear that's made me smile lately has been related to ice fishing. I'm turning into a redneck.
:(

I've been in a constant happy place with my bass gear for the last year or so.
:thu:

But you couldn't be complacent with the TAT avatars.:D

Most of my stuff, except the cheap junk I bought because it was cheap junk (sometimes that's all you want to risk taking with you). The most recent item in that category would be my Midibass, but it wasn't a matter of just picking it up and smiling. It was more picking it up...hmm...ponder...read...tweak...ponder..(repeat) but eventually it got there.

most recent for me was a tech 21 VT Bass pedal. OH MY GOD!!! I played through one at sweetwater last night. It was absolutely incredible. Its the next thing on my list. I wanted it pretty badly, but there were other things I needed more right now.

I like gear that makes me sound better than I really am.
:)

That describes my Wurlitzer 200-A perfectly. As much as I dig my basses, I experiment on them too much to always be happy with their sounds.

The Wurly on the other hand...

Too bad it's 302 miles away, in 'storage' at my folks' place. :(
