ok folks, thanks for bearing with me during this little amp shopping info binge...

anyone have or have opinions on these? 200W, 1x15 Peavey TNT w/Black Widow.

I know they weight approximately 3.5 metric tones, but how are they otherwise? This one I won't be able to play in advance, so please be descriptive....

Too good a deal to pass up maybe, even though I am leery of buying something i've never used...

I played a non-BW TNT115 back in the mid 90's.

I'd describe it as a tank. Heavy as hell (80 lbs), but durable and relaible. I gigged about twice a week (and practiced a few times a week too) with it for 4 straight years without a problem. It never let me down.

A nice combo amp, especially for the money. It had no problem keeping up with 2 guitars, keys and drums.

I had an older 150 watt model that had the BW speaker.

It was HEAVEY. I put casters on it to help move it around.

I bought it new and had it for about 5 years.

After a while I became dissatisfied with the tone. Somewhat muddy. I wanted more hi-fi sound and just couldn't get it with the EQ.

The volume was fine but not the greatest flexability tone wise.

I guess I must have pushed it too hard as the output capacitors?? both blew on it.

I'd try one locally to see if you can live with the tone before buying.

I played the 115S for a while. Since you're soliciting comments, I'll throw mine in even if it's now the BW version.

Honestly, the tone is thumpy. To me, it sounds muffled with a definite lack of clarity. It just makes noise to my ears. Nothing special, but it gets the job done. Now I play with a GK head and a 1x12 cab, and that's the way I want my bass to sound.

The Peavey got the job done, and it's good and loud, but it's not deep and not clear. Sounds nice for guitar with a stompbox, though. :)

+1 to the comments about the sound being loud, thumpy and bit muddy. That was my experience as well, but I have no idea how different the Black Widow versions sound.

As for price, I'd say that's not bad. Most I've seen are in the $200-$300 range used. You could probaly find a non-BW version for under $200.

^^^^^What he said. I think you can offer them $175.

Last year my son got a used TNT100 ( No BW) from Daddy's Jinky for $150 including warranty. He's done house parties and small gigs with it.

The BW speaker will be a step up from the regular ones as well.

I did see the PM.
