Members slapthefunkyfour
I know that these are the really bottom of the barrel stuff. I would rate it around the same quality as Silvertone or First Act. That doesn't mean that it is a piece of crap, If it feels good and sounds good to your friend, and he likes it, then who are any of us to question it? For example: I recently bought an upright bass for $100. I had to do a little work to it, but it is now comparable to very nice $2000-$3000 basses. This instrument just feels perfect in my hands. A bass does not make the bassist.
Members thelurker
I used to own a Stagg "Fusion" model bass, transparent blue with a MM humbucker, volume and tone. The bass was okay, pretty solidly built and held tune. It didn't have a very wide tonal range on the tone knob, and always tended to sound a little "thick", never bright, and not tons of output. New electronics would have gone a long way in that bass, but it was not the worst I've seen or even owned.
