Members solderjunkie
I'm thinking of buying an SX Mustang bass... Opinions? (sorry for the derail)
Members prosigna
I know a teenager I recommended SX to. He just received his. It is impressive for three times the 109.99 price.
Members bleepo
I have a douglas 6er. Not a Ken Smith by any means, but quite decent. Yay.

Members t3ch
I've owned 6, I believe. One was actually a Douglas (their lawsuit MM clone) and it was {censored}. Two played great, and the others were good buys for what they are. I only regret buying the MM, the rest I've been satisfied with.

Members PaulyWally
Hey!!!... somebody {censored} in my corn flakes!!! Hey... Somebody cornflaked in my {censored}! There was a time when $109 for anything not made out of smurf turds would have been a good deal. But in the past 10-20 years, overseas production has begun offering us MANY more "decent" options at much better prices. And the quality continues to get better. No... you probably can't get something new for $109. But even for an extra $50-$100... you can find something better in the used market. And $100 does start putting you in the range of new cheap imports. You can keep SX. If I want to be really cheap, I can buy a used bass for $60 that is no worse. Members DevilRaysFan
Noob wants to know. What's DRF? basically, a term used around the forum that equates the sexy equivalent of the Greek god Adonis Dayum! Righteous Fellow
Members solderjunkie
And $100 does start putting you in the range of new cheap imports. But it doesn't get me anywhere near that 34" scale Mustang bass I want:idk:
Members RIC N BACKER
Boo to the Nay Sayers I dont like the option worse than toilet water because it is a little harsh. I have 2 SX basses. a P and a J. I think they are great for the money. But I would not buy another.
Members PaulyWally
But it doesn't get me anywhere near that 34" scale Mustang bass I want:idk: Well... if SX is the only brand that offers something specific you really want, that's just an exception..... for you. Members Death Hands
But it doesn't get me anywhere near that 34" scale Mustang bass I want:idk: Having owned 1 and been party to playing 3 others, I like them. They're worth the money, very much so.
Members solderjunkie
Well... if SX is the only brand that offers something specific you really want, that's just an exception..... for you. It's either SX or Warmoth... but I would need to finish the stuff from Warmoth. I need some instant-gratification. I already have two projects "in paint" right now... Members One Bad Monkey
I bought my two SXs for the sole purpose of hot-rodding the living daylights out of, and learning some things about instrument maintenance in the process. My SX jazz is as close to a '62 stacked knob Fender as I'm going to - or willing to - get to, and the SX precision went through a number of relic'ing options and pickup/electronic configurations. For the meager amount I spent on them, the two SXs fit my purposes very well. I'm a big fan of "in the field" training, and the possibility of screwing something up on an inexpensive instrument was worth it. I wouldn't have tried half the things I did with my other basses. The fact that I'm gigging with them on a semi-regular basis is just a bonus.
Members james on bass
I owned 4 SX basses and 2 Douglas. Still have one of the Douglas basses. I'd still recommend them.
Members Roguetitan
they are good to mod. the Douglas guitars are pretty decent axes.
Members brake
Yay with a caveat: You get an okay, playable bass out of the box. If you know what you're doing you can have a decent bass with a little bit of work.
