I've yet to see one live (this includes pro rigs, mind you) that hasn't had that red clipping light either on most, if not all the time or blinking incessantly. It's the way their Gain structuring it setup. If you do some research on it, that's what you'll find more than anything. Stefan only uses the 4Pro as a Slave amp from his II-Pro, and it only powers his Ampeg 2x15 in the middle, so it's not really getting a "bass" signal, just a Slave Out from his 2Pro, which power his 2x810s. The Peak LED is supposed to be lighting most of the time. It indicates you've got the gain adjusted correctly. Perhaps an opinion from someone who actually had one of these amps might be worth considering. I had one for a year. It's a very good amp, and has a lot of features and flexibility. About the only possible complaint I had was that in my opinion (not measured in any way) it didn't seem as if it was putting out the rated power, as my SVT-CL definitely seems louder. That doesn't mean this {censored}er isn't loud. It kicks major ass. It had really great tone, and you could do clean forever, or add Ampeg grit. Not to the same extent or type as the -CL, but then it's not an all-tube amp, so that's basically impossible. It's not a practice amp...you won't get the big tone grit at low volume. If you can make use of the twin power amps, it's great for doing real bi-amped setups, not simply running two amps, since its got a crossover and ample patching capabilities to handle any possible preamp/effects/amp configuration you can dream up. The graphic EQ isn't my favorite, and I found little use for it, prefering to use the standard controls, which were more than enough to shape tone. My bottom line was that I really didn't need the flexibility, and for a little more money I valued the SVT-CL's tone more. But the -4pro was still a helluva amp, nothing to snear at by any means. I did feel it was a bit over rated in the power department but it is still plenty loud. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Try the Fusion if you can get your hands on one. I feel quite qualified to comment on such b/c it sounded like complete ass whenever you could see the red light jumping the {censored} out of the chassis. Every break during the song the person would turn around and try to jack with it, b/c you could hear it. This is and was not an isolated incident. Maybe yours was magic! Alan Smith Posted January 16, 2009 Members Share Posted January 16, 2009 I know my SWR350 head manual stated that it was perfectly acceptable to have the gain adjusted so that the clip light would blink. IMHO, the head sounded best with the gain adjusted this way. I played thru an SVT Pro4 once, and was pleasantly impressed, as my experiences with the SVT 3 had shown it to offer poor bang for buck. And by everyone, I mean every single owner I've seen use the amp in live performance. I had no idea that pushing your amp to where the red=bad LED on for about 90% of the time constantly on was good for any amp, but again I guess Ampeg made this one special.
