Members tylytle
4 space SKB. It has a rubber seal for the lids. Really keeps the dust and moisture out. 4 years old and looks like new.

Members drummer_j
Both of my racks are Anvil. Purchased both of them used and have had them for years and still holding up great!
Members georgestrings
Gator cases are really good. They're not bad, but not as well made and durable as SKB cases are... - georgestrings
Members georgestrings
What are you planning on using it for??? Personally, I like SKB cases - but I'm only a weekend warrier type, so they suit me well... If I was touring again, I'd probably go Anvil - as they take abuse a bit better... For weekend, local playing like I do, SKB works very well - they are lighter than Anvil, do a good job of holding out water, are pretty durable, and are backed by an excellent lifetime guarantee... I currently have SKB ATA cases in 2U, 4U, and 12U, a 6U Roto Rack, and a 4U Roll-X Rack I'm digging for my bass amp rack... The Roll-X is pretty sweet - it has a pair of wheels and a pop-up handle, and can be pulled like a suitcase... BTW, SKB has sent me out replacement hardware a couple of times under warrantee - without the least bit of hassle... - georgestrings
Members solderjunkie
What are you planning on using it for??..... My new Eden head needs a place to live. We play shows 4-6 times a month with rehearsals and recording 3 times a week. Our guitarist has a Gator rack case with the "twist latches"... those things really suck. I find them cathcing on things and coming unlatched. I will do a bit of research to find a case with recessed latches, or a different style of latch. Members Rippin' Robin
SKB. This being said, the Gators have gotten very good in the past years. We had a set of 8HE gators that were {censored}, but the new ones look very, very solid, with quality hardware. On the old ones, the lids wouldn't even properly line up with the case itself. Members mlwarriner
i use a 4-space musician's friend brand. it's ok, does the job. my problem is that the rack rails strip out too easy. seriously thinking about a gator or SKB just because you can swap out the nuts. Members louloomis
I think SKB stuff is not made as well as people seem to think and not as well as the price point indicates. I have not been impressed with them and went through a major headache with that company over a rack case which should have been flawless (brand new). It was a total pain. Members solderjunkie
Thanks for all the input!!! I've narrowed my choices to a used Anvil 3-space, or one of the Gator padded 3-space.

I find them cathcing on things and coming unlatched. I will do a bit of research to find a case with recessed latches, or a different style of latch. Gator's hardware is about the same as SKB's - atleast on the stuff I've seen, although their execution is poor: it's REALLY stupid to put the latches on the case instead of on the lids(think: rattle), and I really don't like the "guides" they have on their lids - they're an unnecessary pain in the neck... Lastly, Gator cases are not as rugged as SKB's - if you checked out each companies comparable offerings, you'd see that Gators are a bit "flimsier" - for lack of a better word - they flex and crack easier than SKBs do... IMO, buying used SKB is the way to go - they'll still warranty them, but you save around 50% cost on average... You'll also want to consider if you're going to rack up anything with your head - I've had excellent luck with SKB 4U cases for my gigging bass rig: 2 slots for my amp, and 1 each for my tuner and wireless receiver... It is SWEET being able to set my rack on my cab, plug in the speaker and power cables, and be up and running - takes less than 1 minute... - georgestrings

Members bassplayer7770
Gator cases are really good. I bought a 2-space rack bag that was "scratch & dent" from MF, and I like it so far. I didn't notice anything wrong with it either.
