Hi Everyone,

I want to buy a bass amp good for a J- and/or P-bass. I am looking at the Ampeg BA300-115, Hartke H115c Hydrive or the Trace_Elliot 715 (250 watts). I am planning to spend between 500-1000 $.

I want to have at least 250 watts so I can gig and practice. Weight is an issue, as I have had some serious surgery. I would like to get a light amp as long as the sound is not compromised and can fit in a small station wagon. I also want the amp to be rugged so I am move it along without needing kid gloves.

I play blues, rock and jazz. Any suggestions about other amps or comments on the above are appreciated. Right now I am leaning towards the Ampeg b/c of power, sound, portability. The people at Sam Ash think the Hartke is the way to go.

havent played through the hyper drive

but have played through both of the others you mentioned, they were both really nice. the trace was a VERY clean amp.

the ampeg got dirty pretty easy.

so I guess it would all be in what you are looking for.

thanks. I read on the web that people thought it lacked the punch of these other companies. It seems like these amps are really small which makes them tempting. Did you do some trials?

I compared the MarkBass against all the brands listed, including much more. Ask anyone here, in fact. The MarkBass offered the most bang for the buck for the tone/feature-set I was looking for.
