Members King Kashue Posted January 21, 2009 Members Posted January 21, 2009 Link to story and video This is amazing. I was talking to my students and telling them that I fully expect that, with the current rate of scientific advances, by the time I hit my 60s and 70s, there will be cybernetic limbs, organs, etc, that will work with neural signals as well (likely better) than our natural bodies. I'm astounded to see the technology has already advanced as much as it has. It fascinates me, but I haven't been keeping up with it. Last I heard, scientists were working with mice and small, simple devices. That it's already progressed to functional human limb replacement is incredible.
Members Goofball Jones Posted January 21, 2009 Members Posted January 21, 2009 That's pretty nice. I just scanned the article, but I didn't see if it said anything about "feeling". I mean, have they gotten to a point to where you can feel you fingertips to some degree? Or even the amount of pressure you're exerting on an object as you grip it. I imagine the sense of touch instilled in these devices will be a MAJOR breakthrough....even more-so than just being a visual replica of a hand. And I agree, by the time you hit 70 I expect you to be nothing but a brain in jar attached to some killer, transformer type robot.

Well, according to some, I am already little more than a cyborg (my flabby gut disagrees, however )

Members nAmzrTakin Posted January 21, 2009 Members Posted January 21, 2009 That's just so friggin cool. Technology these days is really advancing at a pace that's faster than ever. Digital age rules. Can't wait to see what we have when I'm 50. Someone needs to invent a working lightsaber before I can die happy.
