Members blueyedmule
lower-cost hi-speed internet access. Comcast is nickin' me for a hundred bucks for just phone and internet. I need to do better than that. Any suggestions? No thanks on the dial-up, btw. Not yet. When I get down to eating nothing but pb-no-j for cost-cutting then I'll get dial-up. Members HaPpYfAcE
depends on what you need out of your internet...most phone companies offer packages with dsl and the slower you go, the less it costs, of course. i haven't tried vonage, but i do have skype and that's not so bad...i think it used to be $10/3 months for a phone number that ppl could call you on...They've got specials listed for $3/month now for US + canada/mexico calling, i believe. Only downside is that the wireless phones for skype are pretty expensive. you can get USB versions that are much cheaper or you can just use a mic/headset on your PC. There are a few options out there, just have to look a little bit.

I've looked at Skype, I didn't like that about the cell phones, but I'll use the Skype/Skype service for free all day long. Vonage adverts $30/mo. unlimited calling CONUS and Canada plus five European locations. I don't know enough about Vonage to trust them. I'm also looking to replace Comcast's cable modem if I can find anything less expensive that is still comparable in download speed.
Members Rowka
My wife recently bought a MagicJack to use as a business line. So far it's been working quite well. A little USB phone jack that you can connect to any computer connected to the net. You can use any phone with it, too. www.magicjack.com

My wife has been on about this little doodad, thinks it might be THE way to save some bones. So you haven't had any problems? They aren't some shifty, fly-by-night, sellin' stolen Amway outa the trunk of a '77 Grenada in the dark corner of a 7-11 parking lot late on Sat. night with a guy that looks suspiciously like Bernie Madoff sitting in the driver's seat with one hand in his coat pocket and the motor always running? Know what I'm sayin'. . ..?
Members blueyedmule
I did it, I ordered a magicjack. I hope it works good, we'll slamdunk Comcast's phone bill and only be paying for their cable modem. I really like it, it seems to run pretty fast. Members James Hart
I've got Comcast and Vonage... I pay about $60 for internet and as a Vonage employee about $27 for my 2 phone lines.
Members Johnny_Crab
My son's on Vonage for years. One price, call all the relatives in other states and in-state......no more exploding phone bills. His does NOT sound like the VOIP that some switched-to-another-country "Customer Service" things do.
Members Pickdust
I've had Vonage for 3 years. The only beef I have is that the local Gov'ts are starting to tax its use. $24.99 for Vonage and $7-$8 tax every month in IL. Sooner or later someone will file suit and challenge taxation of 0s an 1s. The cool thing is that I have my calls forwarded to my Blackberry when my internet connection goes out so I'm always reachable. Not that anyone calls but I'm available if they do. Easy to install, clear as a bell and works like a charm. I highly recommend it! And no I do not work for Vonage............it's much, much worse than that!
