Anyone have an opinion about this one? On-line reviews are pretty limited. I'm guessing it is a newer model for Godin.

No dealers in my area, so I'm not sure when I'll get the chance to play one.

My exp with Godin guitars is generally positive & this one looks like it may be a contender: Simple, well built, all-purpose, & budget priced.

Also under consideration:

Lakland Skyline 4401

Carvin kit bass, Active El.

Initially, I'll be using this for 10-12 songs a night in a pop/rock duo setting.

Any info, opinions, suggestions, etc. appreciated.

I can tell you right now that it won't be as good as the Lakland but it likely costs a few hundred bucks less. The Godin has a nice sound to it, especially with DR's, and the neck is very playable. Good bass for the money but if the difference in price isn't bothersome, get the Lakland.

I'd say the Lakland Skylines are as good or better than anything in their price range and compare to basses costing 30 to 50 percent more.

The 44-01 I've been eyeing is $34 less than the Godin above.

I bought one from MF and returned it the next day. The fret work was terrible and to me it did not feel, look or sound like a $750 bass should. The neck didn't have a 6 fret stretch that was straight. I wouldn't waste my money if I were you.

Played the passive 5 a ton and it's a decent bass. My work has the active 4 on order right now and it should be in early next week. I can give a report then if I can find this thread at that point.

Had a chance to play it yet?

Yes, actually. I'd give the Active 4 a resouding meh. The neck played fine, but just felt cheap somehow, the look of the rosewood and feel of the satin neck were very blah, like an indonesian bass would be. I don't personally care for the look of the mahogany body, the all brass thru-body bridge was frickin HEAVY, out of the box one knob turned freely (loose set screw), one only turned up, turning down was VERY sticky and another didn't move at all without some work and for an active not only did I find the EQ not very diverse, I was a little less than impressed with it's high end fidelity. It didn't seem to have the "air" that most actives I have played do.

I'd give it a 6.5/10. And I really want to like it for no reason than it's a Canadian company trying to stay cost competitive in a mostly offshore priced market.

The passive 5 I have played a bunch kicked it's arse.
