Members countrybass
I've been an avid user of Roto's for years. Just for the heck of it I put DR Low Riders on the other day and played a gig with them last night and was not happy with their tone. They sounded way too smooth for my taste. Members Poltergeist
try D'addario Prosteels or Dunlop steels.
Members countrybass
I never tried those two. Like I had mentioned, I've always used Roto's. Like 30 years or so, and love them, but for the heck of it I thought I'd try a different brand. But I will try those that you had mentioned. Members Poltergeist
Rotosounds are my favorite strings, probably, awesome initial tone, like a piano!....... i just don't like the tension on their B strings, and i also kill a set of them in about 5-10 hours, and i'm poor, so i can't afford to always be changing them.... Members Phantasm
Yeah, if you like rotosound, try hibeams instead of loriders.

Members JeffBass
DR's last a good long time and they don't chew up your fingers/fretboard like Roto's. Go to their website, they have descriptions on how the different sets feel and sound.
Members Renfield
Have you tried DR Hi Beams? Correct. They are very different strings, the HB's have much more Zing too them. Been using them almost exclusively for about 13 years now. I say almost because like you I experiment from time to time. Whenever I do I always run back to the High Beams shortly after. Members Sugarskull
It has been my experience that people who love Rotos generally stick to them like glue forever. YMMV. I wouldn't be at all surprised if you went back.

Members gspointer
I like blue-steels, the really bright goes away in a couple of hours, but they last a long time (for me) before they get really dead.

I'll never use them again. Eat frets like mad and just felt sluggish to me once they broke in.

Same experience with longevity!

Members blueyedmule
I've been a Roto guy for a good while, though not as long as 30 years. However I also like Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkies (I'm usually a nickel guy), and now that I'm just po' white trash (again *sigh*) I've tried and don't mind so far Charlie Stringer Snarling Dogs. So far anyway. Hell, at nearly half the price of Rotos, if they last more than half as long I'm still money ahead. Oh, and I'm waiting on one set of Steve Harris' flats, which I figure will last fer a good, long while and will save bucks there as well. Good luck on the string search! Members Incubitabus
I can't stand DR's. Out of the pack, they feel dry and stick to my fingers. They make me think of Martins on acoustic guitars. After playing for an hour, my finger tips are dry.

Members georgestrings
Still playing Boomer Mediums here - I get about a month and a half of steady gigging and rehearsing out of them, which by then they've more than paid for themselves - and longer if I'm using multiple basses(which is normally the case)... - georgestrings
Members wades_keys
No I haven't. I'll put those on the list too. Did you get the Nickel Lo Riders? Sounds like you did cuz if you like Roto's you'll like the stainless...unless you got a bad set?

Members countrybass
They weren't nickel, they are SS. And they are sticky feeling. I hate that. I have a very light right hand technique and the stickyness is driving me crazy!!

I have a very light right hand technique and the stickyness is driving me crazy!! Ah... Dig it. Yeah, the feel does take a little getting used too - I hit em with a light coat of fast fret.. I can see where if you have a light touch that they could give you problems....did you get the 105's? They're pretty high tension - I pluck hard but I've had to shed for hours since going from 100's and I still get fatigued earlier than usual. If you play light and in standard tuning I would definitely recommend NOT getting the 105's.... That said, in the 2 days I've played em my callouses have gotten rock hard on both fingers and there's no more stickiness....
