Members txbass68
Hey, I did a search and did not find much on these cabs. I havs a chance at a Bag End S15 for $180+tax. I am currently running a Mesa Diesel 115. Will it complement the Mesa or is it a completely different beast? Can it handle a GK700RB II? I think they are only 200 watts. If I run it with the Mesa it will be getting a little more than that.
Members bassment zombie
I've never played through a Mesa Diesel 115, so I can't comment. I love my Bag End cubes. I run mine with a Genz Benz GBE600, which puts out an extremely conservatively rated 275W at 8ohms with 1 Bag End cube, and 425W at 4ohms with 2 Bag End cubes. In my experience, they handle the power very well. There are many posts among Bag End users on talkbass which confirm this, along with a great deal of additional rave reviews. I've only used both cubes at the same time for a gig once - it was incredibly loud (indoors), and I had to reduce the master volume to 1 or a bit less than 1. Since then, I bring a single Bag End S15X-D to gigs, which is more than enough. The master volume is usually set roughly between 2 and 2.5. I couldn't be happier with them. Moderators Kindness Posted January 24, 2009 Moderators Share Posted January 24, 2009 Can it handle a GK700RB II? I think they are only 200 watts. If I run it with the Mesa it will be getting a little more than that. The question is odd, but I know what you meant. First, the amp only puts out 200 watts when you hit it with a hot enough signal and turn the volume up enough. When the volume is off, the amp puts out 0 watts. As long as you are listening to the cabinet, it is good to have more wattage available than the cabinet can use. You can keep turning up the volume as long as the cabinet sounds good. However, the 200 watts rating is deceptive itself. If you try to crank 200 watts of 40 Hz into that cabinet, bad things will happen to the speaker. If you put 200 watts of 500 Hz into the cabinet, it'll be loud as ****, but should handle it just fine. The real questions are whether it is a good match for your other cabinet (which you asked and I don't know) and if it'll be loud enough for your needs (which I don't know either). The last time I played a Mesa 1x15" cab, my impression was that it was rather dark and boomy. The Bag End S15 is a much more mid-heavy sound. Gives great bark with a Jazz Bass, for example. But it's not going to move the earth with deep, rumbling bass.
Members txbass68
Thanks Kindness. I was not sure how to word the question. :rolleyes:Let me ask you another question. Will one of the newer Mesa 115 sound about the same as the Diesel 115? There is a guy selling one locally that I am considering also. I don't know. But the BE sounds great in the mids. Members txbass68
Should I just add another GK Neo 212 to the one I already have and get rid of the Diesel? I'm worthless, I haven't spent any quality time with any Mesa cabinet. The only time I've run across them is in stores and I've always been drawn more to the next cabinet in line. Members first inversion
I don't claim to be any kind of authority, but IMHO the Bag End 15 cabs are a great deal at the usual retail price, what you quoted is something I would jump at. The cabs are nearly indestructable, pretty, and sound fantastic. Even the highs are clear and clean to my ears.True enough, though, I have not tried a Mesa with mine.Cheers
Members James Hart
They can take the juice of the GK... that is a popular head for an S15. The S15 is a killer little cab, tight and punchy, really sits nice the mix. Mated with the Mesa might be a pretty cool mix. I prefer the S12 and D12 from Bag End... but spent a lot of satisfied hours gigging my old S15
Members txbass68
Thanks for the input. i am glad to hear from someone who has owned one. So it can handle the power just fine. Great. This makes my decision in what to do even harder. They can take the juice of the GK... that is a popular head for an S15.
