Lower end bass for recording

I'm a guitarist that wants to learn bass mostly for recording purposes and don't even plan on getting an amp right now. With that in mind, I'd like some advice on which one to get. I've been researching for a few months & have decided to get a jazz bass through a website in the UK........ People here in France price their used guitars based on the price of new guitars found locally in music stores, so in many cases used instruments are priced the same or even above what I can find a new one for online through a site located in England or Germany. I hear that the Squiers aren't very consistent, but I know that the vintage modified and vibe series are a cut above the others..... I'd have to wait until next month to get the Classic Vibe, but I could order any of the others tomorrow. Is it worth waiting another month for the Vibe or would one of the others be adequate?

I'm looking at the following basses:

Save up for the Classic Vibe, or get a Vintage Modified Jazz like
this one
. I bought one for my nephew this past summer for his 13th birthday.I went to visit over Christmas and did a basic set-up for him. They're nice basses for the money.

I've talked a few friends now out of more expensive basses in favour of the VM series stuff. Every single one thanked me after.

I've been impressed with the Vintage Modified Series, but for each I've worked on, the truss rod and neck were not strong enough to handle high tension (usually
flatwound) strings
.

But you are pre-disposed against them too, to be fair. :poke:
