The fact that the senate is even wasting time on this pisses me off.

You have no vision catphish. This is part of the economic stimulus!

We push back the transition 4 months. People are now realizing they're going to be without dancing with the stars and american idol if they don't hurry up... They now have 4 months to save or a tax return to blow on a new HDTV. It all makes sense!

I knew this would happen, just because it's been delayed so many times already.

But when I saw a news article stating that because of the economic crisis, the government coupon program (basically the coupon's worth $40 towards a convertor box, and they're supposed to cost about $40) could no longer be funded...I knew for certain it'd be delayed again.

Gotta have something to bail out the CEO's. $85,000 office rugs aren't as easy to buy these days....

It's never a waste of time for the Senate to show how much they care for the lowly, filthy, unwashed masses. That's why the beat up on executives who fly on corporate jets for us! :thu:

I just don't get people. You give them a deadline and at least half of them wait until the last minute or screw it up every time. Even when it's important.

We implemented new health/vision insurance at our company - it never fails - I give a deadline and I get people asking me the week after if it's too late to get their {censored} in.

It amazes me how much misinformation there is about this.

People come up to me on a daily basis and ask if they have to get Blu- ray now since they are gonna stop making regular dvds on February 17.....

One of my coworkers was asked if he got one o' dem dere converter boxes, would it make his VCR into a bluetooth. I can't make this stuff up folks........

We get tons of people who ordered the gov't coupon, which takes 6 weeks to arrive, then has a 90 day expiration date, who come in to buy converter boxes even though the coupon expires last freakin June!!!

Screw em! If you haven't bought an HDTV by now, or you can't make the converter box work, or worst of all (and I think this is the bulk of them) you are just dead set on continuing to use that Zenith console you bought in 1978, I feel sorry for you. You don't deserve to watch American Idol!

In this case, it wouldn't have mattered. The government ran out of funding for the damn boxes.

I still don't know wtf it means
:D

BROADCAST tv has been transmitted with an analog signal for forever.

It was supposed to be changed to a digital signal next month.

Old tv's have analog tuners. Newer tv's have digital/analog tuners, and cable tv converter boxes output in analog and digital.

If you use an old tv, and use an antenna, when the system changes to digital your tv won't work for this any more. You would need to get cable with a convertor, or get a convertor box that your antenna and tv hook up to.

The government has had a coupon program...you get a coupon for free, and it's worth $40 towards the purchase of a convertor box. The boxes were supposed to cost about that much. With Uncle Sam handing out billions to GM, Chrysler, and BofA/Merrill like they were bar drink chips, there's nothing left for Aunt Hattie to get a converter box.

True - of course I find it irritating beyond belief that the government is helping to pay for ANYONE to get the converter box.

I sure as {censored} don't want my tax money to go to someone who can damn well afford a converter box on their own.
