Members RockBass
Posted this on the recording forum, but not a lot of action, so I figured I would throw myself at HCBF for advice: My band recorded a live show and I've begun the editing process in Reaper. My question is that since it was recorded as one long track, does Reaper have the ability to assign tracks on a cd, or would it be easier to just cut at the end of songs and start new files at that point? Thanks in advance. Appreciate the help.
Members ToeJamFootball
I'm not sure if it can assign tracks, I have just split them up and made different projects, then saved as .wav files and burned from there. Head over to the Reaper Forums and ask there, they are generally pretty fast to respond.
Members bleepo
yup, different tracks. Audio editors aren't really about different songs, just one at a time.
Members DevilRaysFan
Im not familiar with Reaper, but most audio editors will have a Start ID function to Insert Start IDs
Members JacieFB
You can do it both ways, actually. If you're going to have to do a lot of processing to the files, it would probably be best if you chopped it up and saved each song as a separate file. Then, once you've edited/mixed/added effects/etc to each song, you can bounce all of those individually to .wav files. The other way of doing it is leaving it all in one project. Go ahead and chop it up based on songs, then on Track 1, put the first song. On Track 2, put the second song, etc. Stagger them out so that they all play out according to time, rather than stacking them all on top of each other. Put markers in to divide up the songs. Once you have it all lined up, you can actually go ahead apply mastering, compression effects to the MASTER track, if you like. Then you'll render the project and it will give you the capability to burn a CD straight from what you rendered, divided up into tracks based on how you arranged it in the file. Even if you did it the first way, it might be best to go ahead and start a new project and bing all of your individual .wavs back in to arrange it like a CD, as I described above. Gimme a sec and I'll find it in the Reaper manual for you.

There is a great screen capture in there of what I'm talking about. Good luck!
