Members BigPigPeaches
That's a pretty common place to develop a finish crack...I've seen them on a good number of guitars and basses, and I've never seen structural failure because of them. I've never stripped the finish off one to verify that it's just through the finish, because I've never had to. What kind of bass is it? Is it staying in tune? And do you beat on it fairly hard? Members Playerunk
it's a 2004 fender aerodyne..bought it used from a guy here (hold onto it for like 5 months) who bought it from ebay from some country player. it stays in tune perfectly and until now didn't notice anything wierd..just saw this today and got a little bit worried. Members BigPigPeaches
Don't worry about it...it's a Fender, you could bash somebody over the head with it and it won't break. I would bet my neighbor's cat that it's purely cosmetic.

Members solderjunkie
+1 agreed My red P has finish cracks around the pocket and around the neck plate. Somebody (me) got really hammered and fell over onto it. I'm 280 lbs, and the bass held me off the floor.
Members Super Bass
Thats pretty common for bolt on guitars and basses. It's most likely just a finish crack.
Members GRANKOR
yeah it can happen if the screws are too tight - I'm not suggesting loosening them BTW
