Members Benjamin
I am planning the body build for my stricken Epi. Going to stick the Epi maple/maple neck onto a new body in the shape of a Gibson RD Artist. All the Bartolini electronics will also transfer. For simplicity and cost, the 3-point Tune-O-Spastic bridge and a tailpiece will carry over because I have never had trouble with it and it keeps in line with the style. I need to select a tonewood that is light-ish in colour, like Maple. The neck is Maple and I want the two to match. I want a big growly massive piano sound. I use Rotosound RS99LD/E strings. I am working to a budget, but it is hard to figure out wood blank prices when I don't know what I should get. Please vote and if possible give me some reasons. I know Maple is bright, I do like some top end. I just want a damn nice tone!!! Thanks PS In an ideal world I would consider a darker wood body with a Maple or other veneer, but that really depends on budget. Please suggest and keep in mind the availability of these woods in Australia. Maybe even suggest an Australian wood?

Members blueyedmule
Have you done some research on Aussie tonewoods? I just looked at a couple websites, there are some stunning woods available in-country for you that seem to have great properties. I suggest you put some time in, perhaps even talk to some Aussie luthiers about different local woods. Australian Blackwood and Mountain Ash are two that, after a quick read, sound useful for basses. I'm sure there are more informed people to be found in Australia that can hook you up. Good luck!!

The {censored}ty thing is, is that you have to have a minimum order of, like $25 for them to even bother shipping. So fukkit, I'm going to also order a Gotoh 201 chrome bridge... waaay cheaper from Warmoth than any other vendor. Stylin. I wish I had my {censored} more together and had a digital camera so I could post this bass of mine, hell, all of them I'll have to start a thread asking about best bang-for-buck digital cameras. Members Carcinogen
It doesn't matter if your bass is made of agathis or mahogany, once you hit the overdrive pedal, all the tonewood goes out the window.

Members Bryan316
I've never eaten a funny {censored}burger. Do they have those at Red Robin? And I'd say for bright growl, Maple. For medium-deep growl, Mahogany. For deep growl, white ash. For deep no growl, swamp ash. For bright no growl, walnut.
