I'm with you.

When I was hitting it hard about 2 years back, 2-3 hours a night in the gym, I was absolutely famished afterwards. It took all the strength I could muster to not just go crazy after getting done.

Now I eat earlier and exercise later so it's not as much a temptation.

For a while I was going to the gym, working out, and stopping at McD's on the way home.

Well, I'm not that bad. I hear Dairy Queen isn't that bad because of the milk/cream they use. So i get an extra large cookie-dough butterfinger blizzard afterwards.

not.

I tried that....I was stopping at the drive-through window at nearly 10PM......greaaaattttt.

THe last few months I've been slacking off and gaining too many lbs back. A lot of this is late night stops on the way home from practice and weekend gigs... Most types of food right before bed = surefire way to gain back weight, and in a damn hurry.

I mean seriously, who the hell stops for apples or carrots at 2:30AM???

This is what I do... Before working out, I'll eat something small and healthy to give me energy, like a banana or something. When I'm done working out, I drink a water bottle with half a scoop of muscle milk powder and water; it actually tastes pretty good after a workout.

The muscle milk serves a few purposes... It helps with muscle growth, it REALLY helps with soreness (I can tell when I don't drink it), and it helps fill up the pit in your stomach. ESPECIALLY if you drink it on the way home. Don't drink it immediately after, but it's also important to get some protein in your system within an hour of working out.

If you do water/half scoop rather than milk/whole scoop, it's not a ridiculous 5,000 calorie workout shake.
