Members jeraldt
Hey everybody, I have been playing 4- strings for all of my musical career. I am thinking of purchasing my first 5- string and was wondering if anyone had advice on the best high end basses out there. I like Ibanez basses ( I currently am playing a SR1500) but I also like the spector basses. I play alot of hard rock and heavy metal. Any advice would be great. Thanks. Members Emprov
Get yourself to a shop and try out everything that you can. When it comes to buying basses, I like what Marcus Miller has to say: "Choose something that you can commit to, and commit to it.".

Members chubrocker
For me, I can almost all 4 strings. I can play very few 5ers. For me, 35" scale is REQUIRED. Neck width and string spacing on different on each brand/style. You NEED to play one for a while--with a strap. Take your time. Purchasing a 5er is not a quick impulse decision IMO. Members Super_Donut_Man
My advice is (as mentioned above) play a lot of em, a lot. Some fives have a dead(ish) B string (don't really know why, so I won't try to make a half assed explanation). I've heard good things about the Ibanez BTB, and my friend has an older Spector 5er, both are pretty good. My Peavey fiver is pretty decent for the price too. Members Thrustin
Definately get a 5 string. They are superior to 4 strings. I suggest Lakland or USA Fender Jazz.
Members bassman1956
'Rays, Reverends, Modulusssessess, MTD's, and several others are good brands with quality low B's. Like said above, tone and fit/feel are everything tho. So try out any you can.
