Members jamiesmellslike
:poke: Hello people im looking for a new bass. I play a lot reggae/ska but i also play a lot of slap. I would like versatile bass that covers styles from red hot chili peppers to muse and the beat. I was thinking of the fender 70's jazz reissue? My budget is around

Members BeeTL
i dont gettit? I'll expand the thought: In the market place, you will find basses that are different than the '70's Jazz you posted. You will not find basses that are significantly better for your stated objective. Clear?
Members Poltergeist
i did like the build quality of those 70's Fenders, but the electronics were not so good... but throw in a pair of Duncans in there and you'll have an amazing bass for sure! also check out the G&L Tribute basses. Members BTBBass
There's a Schecter Studio 5 on ebay right now for 162 bucks. New they are a couple hundred above your budget, but if you can get a good price on a used one I imagine you would be happy with it. It has a nice slap tone with plenty of low end for reggae. For ska, I'd pick a Jazz if I had a choice, but definately see if you can try out a studio.

Members Flâneur
I had a GORGEOUS Mexican tele from SL. GORGEOUS. I have to fight my friends off her. I like SL. I may have been lucky. As to bass ... you can't go wrong with a decent Fender, at the price you're looking at. Money well spent. Unless you can find a G&L stockist. I think Bandland in Stockton stock G&L, or used to.
