Title says it all, right?

So, I'm probably 3 months into a new project. I split with my cover band back in September. Soon after, a former drummer (who had been tasked with putting down drum tracks for a few of my solo project songs) decided that he really liked what I was giving him and that he wanted to do a band with me again. We spent a couple of months finding a bassist. I know, I know... *shudder* ...I'm playing guitar, now. The music is what I like to call Psycho-reggae. It's very Clash and Police influenced indie rock, if that makes any sense to ya. Dark themes, both lyrically and musically. We've got a couple of songs recorded, and are about to do a couple more to have a demo/EP to move around a bit. We've got a nearly complete original, opening-act sort of set list, and we could hop on any number of shows in the coming weeks. Alas, no band name... So, helps, if you will...here is a selection of our ideas. I'll put a star beside the ones that I didn't come up with. ;)

The Mock Disaster

*Fraggle Stick Car

Blood Shot Blue

*The Dead Will Follow (sorta taken, though: there is "...And The Dead Will Follow" on Myspace. One guy with one friend trying to get a hardcore band together.

*The Locos

Collie Wrath

*The Poisoned Give-Aways

The Dead Give-Aways (taken, though, unfortunately)

The Late Omens

Hotel Phobia

Underwater To Explode

Nuclear Tourists

Anything at all catch your attention?

Any suggestions?

I think Blood Shot Blue, though a bit of a tounge twister is my favorite. I hated having people make me repeat the name of my band - I think Collie Wrath would run into a bit of that.

I like names that are simple and straightforward - mostly because I don't want people asking me "wait...what is the name of your band????" and "what does that mean?"

:)

Awesome...this is the kind of feedback I need. So far, it's been me vs. the drummer...not in a literal aggressive sense, but we always seem to find something wrong with each other's band names. He never gets what I'm trying to say, and I find his to be typically silly or drunken.:D

And the bassist won't lend an opinion. :(

Oh...forgot one other one that we kinda liked but that seemed to be the wrong imagery for the band:

The Southern Accidents

That doesn't really scream psycho-reggae to me :) I picture buck teeth......

I think seeing "Bloodshot Blue" makes my brain think it's less of a tounge twister than "Blood Shot Blue"...

What caught my attention was that you've left the function of providing low end to someone else and you're now playing guitar in this band. The best name I can come up with for you knowing this information is "The lol Cats."

He's a better bassist than me, if that's any consolation to us all.

At least he's better than I can be while singing lead, to be fair. :thu:

While I've got you here, what's your opinion of band names that are taken by folks with no website except a myspace like above?
:)

This is very frustrating.
:D

You assume their name is Bloods Hot Blue, take it, TM it and move on as quickly as possible.

Bloodshot Blue is a good name.

Beyond that, I would think of the themes that your influence bands bring up.

The police, The Clash. Both strong single syllable names. Personally, if I were you, I'd call us:

The MarX

[/.02]

damn....

Perhaps the other thing to look at here is if a band has a Myspace that has been inactive since, oh, say, Feb of 2007, as the one above, and they live hundreds of miles away, and are not national, regional, and arguably not even local to their own scene, then the name is fair game?

There isn't a single band name not taken on Myspace. Unless they're signed or putting out CD's somewhere, they don't count. There are 3 other Fracture's out there, but none of em are going anywhere so we had no problem using the name. Now if you wanted to call your band "the Beatles" or "The Who", I think you'd have some problems

Just register bloodshotblueband or BSB (lol) or BloodSB or something.

Your name doesn't matter so much as your sound.

Offspring?

Foo Fighters?

AFI

All very successful bands with silly names.

Now shorter seems better.. "Queens of the Stone Age" for instance is a ridiculous name.

And anything with "_______ & the ________" is so overdone that you should avoid it.

In the absence of you playing bass, even my fabulous sense of humor has been lost on you.

Just kidding. I like the BSB name. And as Sugarskull suggested, TM it quick, if you like it and the band is gonna have some legs. Or here are a few more suggestions-

The Wut?

The Sad Economists

The Sham

The Shamwows

Billy Mays' Fight Club

Good point. In fact, I have to admit, I've registered probably almost half a dozen Myspace pages with band names that I thought had potential...ones that were somewhat special to me. So far, those names have been shot down in cold blood, though. :(:D
