Members 1tripz1
Hello all! Just started learning bass and its going well, although Im having a problem with my guitar itself. Im using an Epiphone EB-0 and when playing the E string I use my pickup to anchor my thumb...however on this model of guitar the pickup is right under the neck which is not really where I want to be playing. Its causing problems moving from the middle of the strings to the pickup, so I was wondering how safe it is to put a thumb rest in? All I would do is drill a small metal/wooden bar just above the E string. As im new to the mechanics of guitars I thought I should inquire if this will damage the guitar in anyway (apart from the obvious void warrenty etc...) Thanks! Members T. Alan Smith
My recommendation is to simply give yourself time to adapt to floating your thumb while playing the E string. It will help your technique in the long run. Another thought- have you tried anchoring your thumb on the neck heel? Might not be much better, and will drastically change your sound, but it's often a very cool sound.
