Members Thunderbroom
Isn't that the point?!?! You're absolutely right. I never realized how much noise my Boss EQ pedal, Digitech Bass/Synth/Wah pedal, and my Aphex compressor added to my signal. I was unable to detect the noise until yesterday at rehearsal. Everyone noticed it (that had custom molds). I took those out of the loop and it was silent. I'm sure no one would notice it FOH, but it was clearly audible/annoying in our IEM's. Members JeffBass
If I was in an Eagles band or something I would get them, but since I'm mostly a rocker I prefer the feel and sound provided by amps and speakers monitors. I know it usually means you need a good soundman and good monitors.

It was the deciding factor for us after talking with some of the members extensively.

Members gspointer
IEM's are tough on a band, but, it makes you better I think. I hear every subtle screw up that would go unnoticed with a traditional set-up. Its kinda like a good recording of a jam. It is a little unnerving. We're definitely tighter in just the short time we've been using them.

Members Ender_rpm
Is it a problem a noise/hiss suppressor at the board would fix? Or maybe just turn down the input gain/ jack the channel?

I can't say for sure until I try, but I have a suspicion I'd be a lot more comfortable with the old reliable monitors + backline setup.

Oh, you mean because you can hear how you are really singing/playing...... kind of like when you video tape a gig after not having anything recorded, right? I love my IEM's, hate to do gigs without them, and I don't miss the roar of the backline, as a matter of fact, I truly enjoy having my hearing after a show... and I still hear everything and between a mid sized amp on stage and the subs in the PA I feel the low end plenty fine. I have noticed that I've gotten tighter and my singing has improved since going to IEM's a while back! But yeah, if you aren't really used ot hearing yourself it may open up your eyes (or ears) a bit. As for the hiss, I haven't had any issues with my aphex comp, I use the punch factory, which one are you using?? My line is dead quiet all night... must be lucky!! My line is dead quiet all night... must be lucky!! I've got the same one. After our rehearsal next Sunday, I'm bringing the IEM rack home with me. I plan to go through my signal chain piece by piece and also try different basses out. I find that what I hear at home playing through an amp sounds different when using the IEM's at rehearsal.
