Interesting.... I'll give it a deeper scan later, just skimmed the surface now.

I know they've been looking for a web guy for literally years now, maybe they took the first grad student that appeared remotely competent? It would explain the amateurish feel, trying too hard to be artistic and not working enough on proper functionality or ease of use. Programmers shouldn't design and designers shouldn't program. Go to school, find out which you are and run with it, don't try to play both ends, the results will suffer for it.

I inquired about the job once, offering to do the work on a contract basis as I don't wish to move to WA. After 3 attempts to contact them on it I finally got a response after about 6 months. It came at a time when I just didn't have the spare time to spend on it, and the dude came off as somewhat of a flake so I never followed up on it again. That was a good 12-18 months ago at least and I had already seen the want ad for months and months before some here actually talked me into applying for it.

Where are all your senses of style? I think it looks far superior than the previous site. It's a lot more modern. The pages are smoother to operate though. The shopping cart is improved. I really can't see a down side.

If I was really bored I'd give a full blown critical analysis on why so much of that site has so much wrong with it. Thankfully I am not that bored, as it would take a long {censored}ing time to type it all out.

I managed to break the site in my first 3 clicks.

Amateur rule #1: Never launch a revamped website with broken links or incomplete functionality.

Looks like something ESP or Schecter would have up.

Kind of liked the old site. Felt like visiting one of those folksy guitar shops that also carry mandolins, banjos and the like.

This is one reason I don't care for the new design... far too trendy and genre based in appearance. Yet they cater to all markets and really need a slightly more toned down almost corporate feel. Less is more sometimes. This site needs a lot less.

Agreed.

My biggest gripe is the color scheme. It's a lot harder for me to read light text on a dark background than vice versa. I also like the functionality of the older side better, and it looked more... well, legitimate. The whole black background with flashy crap smacks of sites like speakerhole and mosh audio, noted clearing houses for bottom-of-the-barrel audio gear.

What links didn't work?

I checked the bass hardware, pickups, etc. Checked body galleries.

pssh. If I told you, you'd take my job. Wait... on second thought...

I specialize in website optimization, efficiency, ease of use and all that stuff. My sites you can get anywhere in 3 clicks or less and everything is very obvious to find and you always know where you are and how to get back.

I swear I'd be a consultant or some such thing for the topic if it was possible.

Maybe they're trying to lessen customer demand. As of a few months ago, they were barely able to keep up with existing orders (one of the reasons they've shelved new products/options such as a neck joint not based on the old Fender specs), so if that's still true, perhaps one of the employees let his/her kid redesign the website as a project for school.

I prefer the old site, but maybe that's because I was so used to it.

The new site... well, hopefully we'll all get used to it eventually.

One thing about Warmoth I don't quite understand... their '72 Tele Bass bodies.

Okay, sure the similar pickguard, but why not offer as an option the traditional mudbucker pickup routing? I find that lame.

------------------

Well, now that I've gone back to the site and double-checked, there is the Rio Grande Powerbucker, and they do offer a neck position routing. Wonder what that would be like.

I like it, it looks good to me.
:idk:

I think it's less cluttered and it's easier to navigate than the old site. YMMV, but I'm always right.

:D

To me it doesn't matter. As long as I can navigate it easily and it's not full of flash player {censored}, I'm good.
