Members Rippin' Robin
So I got lured in this one-off gig playing on a retirement reception. Set list is full of 50s and 60s cheesy songs like "My Sharona" and "Da doo ron ron". Anything I should know, or is all pop music from that time "root-fifth" and "stay in the pocket"? Members sub5ound
You could try opening your mind. And staying in the pocket.

Members sunburstbasser
Most of it won't be anything complicated unless they ask you to play some Carol Kaye or Motown bass lines.

Members Mudbass
1. Flatwounds are a must for that thumpy, no sustain sound.2. Play in a high register. Never ever go deeper than an A on your E string.3. Walking bass is OK, but keep it simple. Fills are strictly verboten!4. Pluck with your thumb. Though I tend to stay in the low register with rounds, but that's only because I'm a phony and a fraud.
