Members MrJoshua
In A In C I'm not claiming that either version is GOOD. I just want to know which one sounds "better" between the two, to you. Yes, YOU. I see you reading the thread.
Members MikeMess
I think the version in A is best for your singer, but I wanted to like C more. I think with practice and confidence in the higher key it will work better.

Members MrJoshua
no problem mang! It'd probably also help if I could sing better. But oh well. I do what I can.
Members ToeJamFootball
C, seems you're more confident in A but IMO it sounds way better in C.
Members MrJoshua
C, seems you're more confident in A but IMO it sounds way better in C. See, that's the reason I posted a poll. I thought it would be interesting to see what different people fixated on as the reasons why they preferred one over the other. They each have strengths and weaknesses. ...the vocals are a weakness on both of them, though.

Members MrJoshua
Well, I consider it a positive step in the right direction that nobody has pointed out how bad the drumming is. That USED to be the weakest link in my paper chain of mad skills.
Members Poltergeist
A sounds better, imo... C would have to be worked on alot more... ... and, just a personal view, the bassline is fine, but you should try an approach with less notes, imo... C would have to be worked on alot more... ... and, just a personal view, the bassline is fine, but you should try an approach with less notes, imo... You think so? I made it a little busier to try to keep the song moving, since there isn't much in the way of guitar fills or anything like that going on. What was it you think needs so much work about C? I'm honestly curious, since most people seem to prefer C. The point of this whole exercise is that I thought it would be interesting to see which of the relative weak and strong points of each version would appeal to different people. They both have good and bad points, and some of them show up differently depending on how you're listening. For example, in A, the bass was my StingRay; in C, I played the Fender Aerodyne, which is a P/J. If you're listening on big speakers the Fender sounds a little better, IMO (in this particular case) because there's more bottom to it. But in earbuds and on smaller speakers the StingRay sounds a lot better because it has that midrange bite that helps it be clearly audible on small systems. Similarly, in the A version, there are three guitar parts; in the C version, there are seven layered on to of each other in the chorus. So the chorus on the C version sounds a fair bit thicker and a little heavier. The acoustic sound is, IMO, much better on the A version than the C version - more bottom to it, and a rounder tone, while the C version is trebly and thin. But that's just what I think. So, like I said, I thought it would be interesting to see who focused on what.
Members Poltergeist
yeah, the acoustic on A sounds much much better. i think you should do A with the same bass sound/approach you did on C. the bass recording on A has finger squeaking and stuff. but for C its recorded better... both basses sound good, though i think the Fender worked better for this one, so... i think you should make a combination of each version's better parts, in A.... ... the electric guitar on C, the distortion sounds better then in A, too, imo.. Members MrJoshua
That might not be a bad idea. ...or maybe I should do a version in B. lol.
Members AluminumNeck
Get the singer some lessons. Niether version sounds good. a or c makes relatively no difference. If I had to choose I would go with C.
Moderators Kindness Posted February 23, 2009 Moderators Share Posted February 23, 2009 Guitar sounds better in A. Singing sounds better in C. Have you ever listened to Calvin Johnson? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calvin_Johnson_(musician) Version A reminds me of him, which is both good and bad. Members AluminumNeck
I gave honest feedback. Not trying to be a dick. I would rather be honest then congradulatory. The wider variety of audiences would most likely mimic my response. So from a broad appeal basis both versions are not very good. The vocalist has some potential. Just needs to be refined. Pitch is pretty good. Breathing not so much. There is no singer. Just me. And I know; I'm a hack. Thank you for pointing it out again, though.
