Best Wireless for Bass - $200 or so

Any suggestions? I'm tired of almost tripping on my cord and it'd be fun to go amongst the people. I'll probably never get further than 40 or 50 ft. from the stage, as we play mostly bars and small clubs. It should be pretty sturdy, we gig about twice a week.

A friend recommended the AKG Guitarbug setup. Anyone on HCBF like it or hate it? Is my budget reasonable?

My apologies in advance if this has been covered in a previous thread - I searched but couldn't find anything.

Thanks!

I always recommend the same thing......

I also always rec the same thing - in this case it's a Sennheiser Digital1000. Not made anymore but you should be able to find one used for your budget. I've been using one for years and it's one of the better pieces of gear I've ever owned. I'm very happy with it. The way I understand it, this model was the precurser/inspiration for the much loved X2 which is currently on the market (at many more dollars).

Anywho, if you can find one used at a good price, you will not be disappointed.

If your only interested in what works & not a gear snob, then check out the Nady http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Nady-MK2B-Bass-Wireless-System?sku=275551

I have an older model that I bought off CL for $35.00 3 years & countless gigs ago. Bass specific so it has an extended low end.

I have been outside the club on the sidewalk playing to people as they go by (some actually went in the club) with no noticable loss. I always get compliments on my tone when I am using this rig. Decent battery life too.

Naturally like any piece of gear you have to treat it with respect. :thu:

I used to have a Nady UHF Diversity system. Guitarded Center had them for $60 each, and last weekend had em on sale again. I bought two, so I'd have a second transmitter. Served me well, did the job. But I don't like the weak signal strength after the receiver compared to a straight cable, and I don't like how my low B string is weakened.

I've just upgraded to the X2 system, the XDS-Plus. NO TONAL DIFFERENCE AT ALL. Paid $275 out the door. I want the best I can get.

If you just need to be wireless on small stages, that Nady setup is good enough for $60. If you want better, the X2 XDS-95 is now $199 and sounds flawless. If you want better signal strength for large stages and running around, the XDS-Plus is now $279 almost everywhere.

Don't forget... the guys who created the X2 line are the guys who initially designed the Sennheiser Digital Reference 1000 series systems. So they know their {censored}.

Actually Sennheiser purchased the original X-Wire technology when X-Wire went out of business. X2 was the second incarnation of the X-Wire guys, AFAIK.

They ARE working on the European 2.4GHz frequency range. Hold out a little while longer.

Well the stupid thing was they WERE bringing them out over here. They were for sale in stores and everything, then they disappeared when Line 6 took over. The 900Mhz frequency it works on also i think isn't clear over here because of 2G mobile phone networks
