Members RSBro
They figured their basses didn't deserve the quality of Bartolini? +1 to this. One reason I didn't get one of the newer models. Odd, to say the least. I'm sure it's a cost thing though.

I'm sure it's a cost thing though. I wouldn't be so sure of that. I like the sound of the new models without the Barts. I like the new jazz pickups as well, but I will say that I liked the Fralins a bit better.
Members T. Alan Smith
All I was saying was that you know the Lakland pups will be at least good.

Members RSBro
Nope, but that is always a good guess when a company does anything. Still, I'm always/usually hesitant about in-house p'ups. Especially after a switch from something with such a reputation that I already know/love. I'm not the hugest fan of Barts, so I'm guessing I'd prefer the Lakland pickups. Personal preference. There are lots of audio clips available on their website, so check 'em out. Members 82Daion
Having played a USA 4-94 with the new Lakland electronics, I prefer them to most Bartolini-equipped basses I've played, but I've never played them head-to-head, so I can't make any direct comparisons. Members bluedogaudio
I was just listening to the audio clips on Lakland's website, and I like the sound of the jazz and p basses. I also liked the Glaub PJ. My favorite was probably the Joe Osborn Skyline 4 string with maple fingerboard, passive Fralin pickups, and Lakland strings (flats and SS rounds) I didn't like the pickups in the 55-02 or the 44-01....not my thing....actually, I hated them. I also wasn't a big fan of the Scheff, Decade, or the Hollowbody....cool sounds, but again, not my thing.

Could you share what about the Lakland electronics you preferred over the Barts? ...indirectly, of course.
Members MikeMess
I liked the Lakland electronics in the new basses I've played. They have a little more zip and character than the Barts in my 55-02. I love the barts, but my next lakland will have the new electronics.
