I watched his address to Congress, too. I wish him the best of luck. I think some of his plans are a bit ambitious, such as challenging every American to go back and continue their post-secondary education (good luck with that one in the middle of a depression...). Still and all, I heard some good ideas. I hope he can deliver.

From the speech:

I know that the price of tuition is higher than ever, which is why if you are willing to volunteer in your neighborhood or give back to your community or serve your country, we will make sure that you can afford a higher education.

I know there's more behind this, but is he suggesting if my daughter volunteer's locally at the shelter that she gets a free ride to college?!?

It depends on what kind of tax bracket her daddy is in:wave:

In all honesty as my president I "hope" Obama has a successfull term. I did not vote for him, and disagree with some of his policies, but I never want a president to fail for the failure sake. However, I think President Obama bit off much more than any president ever could possibly hope to chew.

If everyone gets a post-secondary education, who's going to work at McDonalds?

Nobody.

We'll all be too smart to eat that crap. McDonald's will cease to exist. We'll all be growing our own organic food; and our HCBF GTGs will include tasting each other's sweet potatoes and discussing effective composting.

Americans invented the $30+k car which loses value daily while the automakers try to convince everyone that they "deserve" this car. The average car note is over $450 per month for around 60 months. Yeah, we "deserve" this car.

Rather than automakers giving continuous incentives, why don't they just lower the price? They could sell more vehicles, and it would make great PR.

Speech was political (no surprise there) but not a bad speech. I would like to believe it, but it proves that people on television will applaud anything and everything. I thought Jindal made very good points about irresponsibility.

Fail. I've got some higher ed and like McDonald's. Organic food is for uppity folks with more money than sense (disclaimer: my house is filled with that {censored} because of my wife. I pick my fights with her and let her win this one.)

I had to turn it off. I couldn't take it. His position is essentiallythat our options were to do nothing about the "crisis" or spend $1 Trillion that we do not have. Somehow, I think it is possible for the gov't to do something without pissing away 10% of the GDP into make work programs at best and pure pork at worst.
