Ok, so does anyone know where the $2.00 delivery fee actually goes? I thought it went to the driver who delivered the pizza, but last night something very wierd happened which is making me doubt it...

So we order a pizza last night and the total with the $2 fee came to $14.60. I gave the guy $15 and he walked back to his car. A minute later the door rings and he's there wanting to give me the change. I tell him to keep it, but he insists and hands me 30 cents (yeah, I know...) and walks away leaving me stunned.

I can only think he doesn't see any of the $2 and was insulted...

So what is the actual deal here? Anyone know? Any similar experiences?

I wish I knew.

When I delivered for Papa John's there was no such fee.

I've got a friend that still works there - I'll try to contact him and find out the deal.

Locally, the Papa Johns driver gets $1 of it and the establishment gets $1. The drivers pay for their own gas.

A $2 tip on a $15 order was still pretty {censored}ty, IMO, much less a $1 tip. I would expect your delivery service to seriously decline from this point onward while that driver's on shift. Even if you consider the actual pizza order was $13, and you thought you were tipping $2, I'd still say that's low if it was delivered on time and hot. Would you bring someone food to their house for $2 minus gas money?

i dont think the driver gets the delivery fee. that goes to the company paying the driver minimum wage.

Minimum wage?

Try 2.10 an hour.

People that don't tip pizza drivers need to know this - pizza guys work for waitress wages - without tips they can't even keep gas in their cars.

Tip the driver.

Damn dude, that's pretty harsh... And yes, he WAS insulted and insisted that you needed the change more than he did ;)

I never understood why people tipped bad. That's their JOB, you're how they make their money. What's an extra buck to you?

EXACTLY.

Believe me, I knew who the stiffers were, and you can rest assured that I would give priority to the better customers.

We all did - that's the way it works.

Yup, that's how I handled that situation too.

Don't insult a driver with loose coin - it's more trouble for them than it's worth; takes up space in your cash bag and is pain in the ass to count at the end of the night.

Depends on what state you live in.

In Oregon, no matter where you work or what you do, you get $8.40/hr.

With tips, pizza delivery drivers can easily pull $12-14/hr.

I figure 15% for a tip on the rare occasions I have a pizza delivered.

I read in a foodie magazine recently that 20% is becoming the expected tip in restaurants. I can see that is the bill is big, and the service is exceptional.

I hate that 20% is becoming the norm. I -will- do 20% but only for exceptional service. With prices going up, tips have gone up. 15% is still a good amount in my opinion. To expect 20% is retarded.

I believe in over-tipping. I've dated too many waitresses and servers in my past to know that sometimes they just don't make that much.

I hate cheap people. I mean I loath them. They always have some weak-ass justification for it too.

first thing that comes to mind is mr pinks opinion in reservoir dogs.:thu:

+1

I used to work with a guy that was the worst. I'd always makes sure to get the bill when possible if we were out together. Then I'd make a point to tip 60%. He'd flip out and be pissed for the rest of the day. It actually made him mad that I'd tip well.

You're about 25 years behind the times, bro.

Twenty percent is and has been the norm since the '80s.
