Members eoinwalsh
I have an american highway one jazz bass. I am presuming that I should be able to get good tones out this. I am playing it through a peavy basic 112. It sounds {censored}in terrible. Every setting I have experimented with has sounded disgusting. Also, I can't get a setting that allows me to sound good when switching between a number of styles/techniques. For example, I'll be playing some licks and solo type things and they are not clear. They sound really muffled so I'll turn down the bass until they sound ok. But then I'll go to thump/pluck and the it sounds terrible because of the lack of bass. Is the peavy basic 112 a piece of {censored}? because that's how it sounds. I have what I thought was a very good bass and it sounds terrible through the amp. Moderators Kindness Posted February 28, 2009 Moderators Share Posted February 28, 2009 The best bass through a mediocre cabinet sounds mediocre to awful. A mediocre bass through a great amp and cabinet sounds pretty dang good. Your Basic 112 is your weak link and it is tough to get around it. Members LanEvo
What would be a good and affordable amp? That all depends on your budget, whether you're willing to buy used, how much volume you need, what kind of tone you're after, gigging amp vs. practice amp, etc. etc. Not easy to make a generic recommendation. Need details.
