Free, open source stuff, preferably.

I am not about to go buy a $600 suite of software, nor will I need the complication that comes with it. This will be basic bedroom editing, and MAYBE to do some rough demos for my band.

I'm checking out Audacity, but I know there's got to be more out there...

I got CUbase LE with my Presonus Audiobox (2 Channel converter/pre) and it works fine, I have Sawstudio, though, (Very $$) and use it more, but the CUbase that came with the Presonus interface is a good place to start

It isn't free, but Mackie Tracktion is as stupidly simple as it gets and not $600.

:thu:

You're going to have to spend a bit of money to get something you can actually live with for the long term. I've tried a lot freeware and shareware programs and none of them were worth a {censored}.

Tracktion is really good considering it's a fraction of the price of the other stuff out there. I used Logic for a long time and found myself spending more time with the manual (which is the size of the Los Angeles phone book) than actually recording and editing. Very frustrating. Tracktion is simple, versatile, it has a gentle learning curve and does a very nice job.

Let me rephrase. "I am not looking to spend money." ;)

But go ahead, keep em comin :D Reaper looks interesting, maybe I can get the band to go all in for a license.

What I'm doing is ridiculously simple and uncomplicated. Nothing I need I'll need to be happy with long term. These are rough mixes, for anything we'll actually put out we'll probably still be going to a studio for.

My drummer bought a pretty killer recording interface that came with a copy of Cubase I think, a lite version. Are those any good or is it still worth buying something else because they're too dumbed down?

I usually do the research and test myself, but I'm really kind of burnt out on testing out a dozen types of software and deciding for myself. I just want to get something, learn it, and stick with it.

I have been using Magix Music Maker 14 producer edition for a few months and its pretty good. I also here good things about Adobe Audition. I really like the magix interface it just flat works.

The Magix software is fiarly cheap and has a ton of plugins.

I did this tune using Magix. Some older version have turned into freeware in the lkast few years and are available on various torrents.

Decency was my first real effort at writing, recording composition. that version is unmastered. I have a newer version I haven;t uploaded yet becuase its not finished. Also Magix has some of the best effects plugins I have used.
