Hey Bass Gurus... Worth it?

I have a 1970 Rick 4001 (Sunburst) bought nearly 20 years ago. It sat in pieces in a basement, unstrung for more than 15 years now. The finish is "road worn," one of those glassy inlays is cracked inside, the thing probably was re-routed for some non-original electronics, with extra screwholes for a pickguard, which looks like it was carved from a blank with a steak knife. all that said, there's only so many 1970 Ricks out there.

My question then is would this bass be worth repair/restoration, or is the return on such an investment too little to justify these days?

It's out of state, and if it I put it back together, I think it should be reassembled right, so it's costing me a lot less money leaving it as it is right now. If it was actually worth something the impetus to restore it for preservation/sales purposes may inspire me to drop some money on it, but if not, I'd just as soon wait until I have more money in the bank to throw at less important matters.

Restore it. Pre 72 basses are the shiznit. Go to the Ricresource forum. If you have someone like Paul or Dale refin it, it won't hurt the resale. Those guys are held in high esteem.

Depending on the state of the finish, but a refin may not even be necessary. Just get a new PG and parts and rock it - or sell it.

Restored to factory stock condition would make it valuable. But modded Ricks generally dont fetch much return sales wise even when better sounding afterwards such as Lemmys customized Rick etc. Except for its player/owner associated value. LOL.

Even though I hate Ricks, I say you should restore it. They seem to be fetching a lot of $$$ these days.
