Members BigDaddyMojo
I have a Squier Affinity Jazz bass that I've been learning on. Now I want a better Jazz bass. Thanks in advance, Michael

Members Super Bass
Upgrading from a Squier to a Squier? hmm... BigDaddyMojo, its probably best to look used. You'll get a lot more for your money, especially these days. You should at least be able to get a Mexican Fender, maybe one that has been upgraded or if not you should have enough money left to upgrade it. Members Ender_rpm
Maybe a G&L Tribute JB2? A Mexi Jazz is a 1:1 replacement, but may not be a HUGe step up in quality. You may be able to score a Highway 1 Jazz used in that price range too.

BDM's criteria is $300-600...

Members s4001
I prefer the feel and sounds of the SMV to the MIM. However, a used G&L would pack a hell of a punch for the bux.

Members s4001
Duh, how could I have forgotten? Used MIJ Fenders are almost always awesome finds.

Members Crescent Seven
If you can find the G&L Tribute JB-2 used, jump all over it. You are almost always better off buying used. It's silly how much you can save on a bass; Warwick Corvette's sell for $1200 new, you can find them all over the place for $700 used. Same goes for Stingrays, USA Fenders, USA G&L's...them {censored}s just don't hold value on the used market. Yet guys are selling these basses in like-new condition, or with maybe a few blemishes. I'm willing to forget about a ding on a headstock or some buckle rash if it saves me $500. C7

Members Obiwonder
What about a SX Bass? Cheaper but after 100 to 200 on top of that you have a great bass.
Members bluedogaudio
I'd get a MIM or MIJ jazz bass and put some new pickups in it.
