Members bluedogaudio
Here is a list of tones that go from 8Hz all the way up to 22,000Hz. It
Members AluminumNeck
I can hear all the way upto 22khz according to the test. My issue being however that the 22khz tones don't sound correct. Like they are harmonics of 22khz and not a true 22khz. I noticed that with most of the tones above 16khz on the test. I think something is wrong with the test. Or maybe your speakers are having difficulty reproducing such high frequencies. I can hear up to 20khz apparently. But now my ears are ringing
Members Super_Donut_Man
Hmmm. My hearing cut off at 17hz, I could barely hear it. The constant ring in my ears is slightly lower than 8khz:facepalm: 21khz sounded the lowest, which is odd that I can actually hear that because I cannot hear 18k-20k and 22k. must be the speakers. If you're saying that 21khz seemed to be a lower pitch than everything else, then it must be... Maybe you're hearing a couple octaves below (~5.25khz)? Members Derek5272
I played one of those high tones and I couldn't hear it at all, but my son in the other room "DAD STOP IT!!!!!!" My dad was taking a sound engineering course a couple years ago, and was listening to various frequencies (up to 16khz I believe) so he could recognize them to be able to eliminate feedback more efficiently. I guess he thought his headphones weren't good enough to reproduce 16khz, so he unplugged them in the middle of a tone, with the volume CRANKED, and it pretty much raped my ears. Members lokidecat
You gotta make sure your speakers/headphones can produce said-tones. You not hearing the 16KHz+ tones may not be a function of your bad ears.

Come to think of it, does anybody make a speaker that actually has a frequency response OVER 20khz? I don't think I've seen one listed higher than that before. AluminumNeck, what brand & model are your speakers or headphones?

I have Panasonic RP HT-850s Monitor headphones. They hit 7Hz-28KHz @ 105 dB/Mw And at like $29.. some of the best sounding ones I've ever owned (including Sennheisers). Definitely best bang-for-the-buck.

Going way below and above the range of human hearing just to make sure you get everything, huh? Mine only do 40-20khz So who knows, maybe I can actually hear 21 or 22khz, but I doubt it. Members bnyswonger
I question the accuracy of the test, certainly these crappy satellite speakers at work. I can hear stuff in all of them, but 16K is quieter for some reason. I'm pretty good up to about 20K.
Members L. Ron Hoover
My AKG K701s are spec'd for 10Hz-39.8kHz. I'm not sure that kind of HF extension is necessary. I can't hear above 18kHz in that test, though I can sense something at 19 and 20kHz, I can't really hear it. That lines up reasonably with the hearing test I had done a couple of years ago at the NRC in Ottawa. According to that I start to lose response at about 19kHz, though I'm 5dB more sensitive than average through most of the audible range.
Members Marc G
I heard up to 18Khz.... I could hear when the 19Khz signal kicked in but not the tone itself....
Members PaulyWally
For some people that said they couldn't hear in the higher frequencies... is it possible it's due to the sound being played on poor equipment? I can't hear some things on the laptop speakers. But I can sure as hell hear them through my studio monitors.
