Members countrybass
Recently I've been thinking about moving on from my present gig. One of the guys is having some legal issues that's effecting our gigging schedule significantly, and I'm not making any money. There's a band around the area that has been attracting alot of attention. They describe themselves as Emo/Pop/Rock. I don't know that music well enough to describe who they sound like, but I wouls guess that it's kinda like Blink 182 ( is that the number? lol) and maybe Puddle of mud and stuff in that realm. So here's me question. I was thinking about buying another rig that may fit that style abit better than what I'm using for my country gig. (See below) I know that there is no specific county or metal rigs, but I would just like to hear your suggestions. Some of the rigs that I was up late last night thinking about is first maybe just add a 15" to what I have now. Or maybe get an Ampeg 610 with either an SVT-CL of SVT 2PRO, or the AMpeg 610 and keep my present rack, or a GK rig. Maybe the Fusion 550 with a 410 and a 15. I don't know. lol!!! Lemme hear what you guys suggest. Although Ive been playing and gigging f0r 31 years, Im only experienced with Country.
Members Poltergeist
the SWR cab you have should work fine, unless you need more power... for that kinda music i like two 4x10's more then a 410 and a 115. as for heads, i'd recommend checking out GKs and Mesas. Members countrybass
Any particular GK or Mesa model?
Members Poltergeist
the 700 and 1001 and 2001RB are based on the same circuit, except the 2001 has an overdrive channel (footswitchable). depends on how much power you need. i use the 1001RBII and it's loud and {censored}. the Mesas.... i like the M-2000's alot, but the M-Pulses and the 400+'s are probably the way to go if you can't play them all. Members countrybass
Are the SWR cabs compatible with the GK head?
Members Poltergeist
sure. you just can't use the bi-amp feature unless you use GK cabs. which sucks, but well... ... i use Peavey cabs with mine.
Members NeonVomit
You can't go wrong with a GK head for metal. But ultimately, you will need power and lots of it. 10" speakers are your friends.
Members Poltergeist
yeah. i play Post-Rock type of stuff, like Red Sparowes, Isis, Cult of Luna, Neurosis.... works just fine.

Members Poltergeist
yeah... the rig will have will work, except if you're looking for those grindy rock tones and stuff... the Markbass won't work for that, it's too clean. but for a more "classic" tone you're fine. Members countrybass
My MB works great with the country especially with the Sansamp. It adds a touch of grind to my tone. But it's only 300W @ 8 ohms, which is what I'm currently running it at due to only using 1 8 ohm cab.
Members Poltergeist
it coooouldd work.... depends on how loud the band plays. you should borrow another cabinet to see how it goes before you make the move.

Members Mudbass
It's sounds to me like you're just looking for an excuse to buy some new gear. If that's the case then forget everything I said. Your present gear is complete crap and will never work. Go buy some new gear right now right now! Yes, the markbass is clean... Which is great for cutting through. :poke: He also has a Sansamp, which is perfect for adding some dirt or grind. :poke:

Members countrybass
well, it's obviously that he totally NEEDS it :poke: I do need it Mostly because I want it!! lol!!!!!!!!!!!!! There was some seriousness though in my thinking, I was curious what you rock musicians could tell me, and I didn't want to get burriied in the mix playing a style that I really have never done.. With Country, I don't have to cut through. I just lay down the deep foundation that all the other instrument ride upon. So my present tone is deep and thick, but it wouldn't cut through cranked Marshalls for example. I'd be more like an unheard vibration! lol!! And thank you all for your thoughts!! It is kinda an excuse for new gear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Honestly, the only thing I'd change about your current rig to accomodate the new style of music would be to add another Goliath 4x10, and that would be more for appearances than anything.
