Members PaulyWally
I'm thinking about going to Nashville next month with a small group of friends. We want to stay in Music Row and be in walking distance of everything. But I've never been there and have no ideas on where to stay. Any hotel recommendations? Any places that I need to hit? Areas I should try to avoid? Thoughts? Fragmented sentences? Talk to me, baby. Thanks in advance!
Members perrydabassman
You absolutely must hit Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie bar in printers alley. Great live bands and pretty damn good cajun food to boot, (hint - take beads, lots of beads, lots and lots of beads) Also, for daytime amusement, go to Opry Mills mall, there is a Nascar simulator there, if you are so inclined. Not to mention the Grand ol Opry is there too.
Members BeeTL
Downtown Nashville isn't very big, so map your hotel options there. I usually stay Hilton properties and the Doubletree offers a nice mix of price and amenities. You can't self park, so if you rent a car that adds to the cost. The Hilton is always pricey when I've looked, and the Homewood Suites is near a park that attracts the homeless. The Sheraton is closer to the Capitol vs. Music row. Everything you want to walk to is either on 2nd or Broadway. Printer's Alley is cool as well, but I've never gone inside anything there.
Members geddyentwistle
take a good look at a map music row is towards vandy...a couple of places the eat, see music...overall not too much to see... the vandy area is west end... lots of good restaurants downtown is several blocks away, too far to walk daily from music row... that's where you have everythign from the touristy country music honky tonk ( which are a lot of fun), bb kings, and the previously mentioned printers alley, wildhorse saloon which has lots of acts that were big 10-20 years ago scattered all around are various clubs
Members PaulyWally
Hmmm... so maybe I don't want to stay on Music Row? Again, I know nothing. I just figured that's where the action would be. I think we'd like a fair variety of clubs (genre-wise) and good eats. The plan is to just drive in, park at the hotel, and walk to wherever we need to go. If we do drive, it'll probably be to see something specific and come right back. Thanks! Music Row is independent studios and small shops... it is not what you think. You can walk all over downtown. Lots of touristy-type places to see and eat. If you go to the Grand Ole Opry, go across the street afterwards to a {censored}ty little bar called John A's. They have a down-home vibe, a decent menu, and decent bads/open jams most nights. Check out Gruhn's... even if you are not in-the-market for instruments, it's still a cool spot (I played a '64 hardtail Strat last time I was there, it inspired me to build my own). Don't give the homeless people money (they're not homeless, it's a scam).
Members BeeTL
My mistake...I though Music Row was the strip on Broadway between 2nd and the Sommet Center. Downtown is where you want to stay.
Members perrydabassman
Oh yeah, and you should check out the Gibson factory inside Opry Mills. There is some drool worthy stuff there. There is a life size replica of the parthenon by the state building. There is a small round the world beer club underneath the hooters, I forget the name, but the entrance is just around the corner from the entrance to hooters. Members pjmburg
You should check out the Opryland Hotel too. It's expensive as hell to actually stay there (AFAIK), but it has rivers and trees and a little island village in the "lobby".
Members Goofball Jones
Make sure you pay your respects at the Ryman Auditorium. For most of April it will be a tribute show for Patsy Cline: http://www.ryman.com/APC.html At the end of April, if you're going to be there on the 27th, Vince Gill will be playing there. If you can wait until the 10th of May Christopher Guest, Michael McKean & Harry Shearer will be playing there on their "Unwigged & Unplugged" tour. Members MrJoshua
If you stay downtown (which is a good idea as there are several good places to eat and/or drink on Broadway or 2nd), try to catch a Preds game at the Sommet Center. It's usually a great experience.

Members countrybass
We always stay at La Quinta. Damn if I can remember the name of the street, but it's only minutes away from the Opry and not far at all from main street. A cool place down there that I like to play is the Cadilliac Ranch. It has a nice stage. Some of the places your jammed onto this small stage right up against the front window. If you can try to go during fan festalso which is in June. Not sure if we're playing at that this year, but it's really c ool to be there at that time. And check out the Gibson store in the mall. They have a cool 3/4 upright on display in the back. Also if your drinking ya gotta do the neon putt-putt in the mall too. lol!!!! My avatar is at the Cadilliac Ranch.

One of our guys is in the process of dealing with his 2nd DUI and I'm not sure what that will entail with us leaving the state to play there, but if we do come and introduce yourself!!
