Members t3ch
I Know when I hear my own voice I'm sort of taken aback, especially when singing. I personally hate hearing the sound of my own voice... Curious to hear from the rest of you. I don't do any backing vocals in my band, so it's not much of an issue, but I just recorded some songs messing around and it got me wondering. Members ToeJamFootball
Yeah, the voice we hear isn't how we sound. I'm guessing it's to do with the sound traveling through the mass of our head?
Members King Kashue
I don't hate my voice, but when I hear a recording, it just doesn't quite sound like me... What's really weird is that when I'm doing accents or impressions, those sound the same on recording as they do in my own head/ears...It's just my normal speaking voice that doesn't sound right... Members Dave Campbell
Unless I'm singing background vocals in a loud band, I don't like the sound of my voice. Maybe that's why I haven't stepped up to the plate with the singing... I prefer to be out of the spotlight. But hey, isn't that why we're all bass players? Members ZanaZulu888
I did this local tv interview a few weeks back and I notice that I mumble when asked questions or whenever someone starts a conversation, but when I talk I normally I sorta bark my words, not loudly though. Members solderjunkie
I like my singing voice... I just can't play and sing at the same time. I have a pretty high-end range... think Joe Strummer meets Johnny Rotten. I refuse to sing for my bandmates, and they have no idea I can sing at all. They put a mic in front of me the first few rehearsals expecting some backing vocals... I ignored it:lol: Once I master the singing/playing skill, I might let them in on it. Members burdizzos
It used to be strange to me, but after singing in a band for a few years, I'm used to it. I find that I have a different voice when I am singing or talking into a mic than I do when I'm just being recorded speaking normally. I'm assuming that I change the way my voice sounds when I can hear it from an outside source.

Members Cpt. Spliff
Hearing my rendition of "Very Last Day" (Hollies) made me stop singing for good.Years later I tried making the usual announcements on an answering-machine and decided that people probably knew what to do anyway. Members i_wanna_les_paul
I have to listen back to myself during radio or voiceover work, so I'm used to it. I know I can't sing, so I just circumvent the whole issue.
Members Flatball
I've done a lot of singing, both lead and backup. People say I have a nice voice but I think it's awful. I mean, I can sing, but I find my tone is terrible.

Members collinwho
I am not a fan of my voice. I am told it is good enough to front a band, so I accept that as true, but it definitely gets on my nerves some times. Of course, when I think about it, some of the features of the singers that I really enjoy are the same features that I dislike in myself. Basically, I still don't like my own voice, but I just don't really care anymore.
