Members The Fury Posted March 10, 2009 Members Posted March 10, 2009 Looking for a cheap (under $300) cab that can handle jamming with the band. I plan to add on later so 8ohms would be ideal (amp only runs down to 4ohms). I've been looking around the used market but its dry as a bone. Been checking out GK BLK cabs (they would match my GK head) but they are unported and i doubt their low end. I have tried them and they werent bad but it was at low volume. Was also looking at those new Acoustic cabs ($199 for a 1x15) anyone heard those? thanks in advance for any advice or ideas ALSO i have some 15'' speakers i was gonna use as part of a PA system that i later scraped. I've never built a cab before but if i could do it cheap i would give it a shot.
Members willsellout Posted March 10, 2009 Members Posted March 10, 2009 You could look at Avatar. They have good prices and their stuff is solid.
Members PaulyWally Posted March 10, 2009 Members Posted March 10, 2009 I've been looking around the used market but its dry as a bone. Yeah, I would suspect that would be the case on the moon. Just curious... where are you? Was also looking at those new Acoustic cabs ($199 for a 1x15) anyone heard those? I suppose you could do worse. I would think a 1x12, or 1x15, or 2x10 would allow you to jam with a band... carry some small venues... and leave room to add a 2nd cab in the future. $300 budget? I dunno. You'd be far better off in the used market. But MF has a several things in your price range on clearance. Behringer 2x10 ~$150 Acoustic 1x15 ~$150 Behringer 1x15 ~$160 Fender Bassman 1x15 ~$215 Out of those, I guess I'd probably go with the Fender or the Acoustic. However, anything in the $150 area wouldn't be such a bad deal to grab for a cheap fix to an immediate problem. You could probably dump it easily for $75 ($100 isn't unreasonable either) when you get more funds and can afford a better cab. Then you wouldn't be out so much money on a crappy cab. The only issue is... who knows what the "scratch" or "dent" is on those units. You could look at Avatar. They have good prices and their stuff is solid. I would personally put this above the stuff at MF. But below the used market. If I was in your position, I think I would get an Avatar 1x12 to start. But that's just me.
Members JeffBass Posted March 10, 2009 Members Posted March 10, 2009 Agree with Avatar. The 212 NEO is just a bit more the 300 bucks but you'll get something that's solid and will sound very good.
Members rpsands Posted March 10, 2009 Members Posted March 10, 2009 Peavey 410 TVX for life, dude. Seriously. Go pawn shopping.
Members The Fury Posted March 10, 2009 Author Members Posted March 10, 2009 I looked at Avatar, its tempting. That Acoustic 1x15 is tempting also.... hmm. I'm in Norfolk, VA. If you check the norfolk craigslist you'll see how barren the used market is around here =/
Members rpsands Posted March 10, 2009 Members Posted March 10, 2009 Go to pawn shops. They always have peavey gear.
Members Crescent Seven Posted March 10, 2009 Members Posted March 10, 2009 Go to pawn shops. They always have peavey gear. {censored}, around here, if something goes into a pawn shop that's worth buying, it never hits the floor. They put it on eBay or Craigslist.C7
