Members chugheshc2 Posted March 17, 2009 Members Posted March 17, 2009 New York Times weekdays I get most of my news from bbc and cnn and fark, but I read the newspaper while I eat dinner/breakfast, still hard to beat the utility at the table. C.

Members Brother Mango Posted March 19, 2009 Members Posted March 19, 2009 I haven't purchased a newspaper in more than 10 years. The mattress ads, cell phone ads, and diamond ring ads go in first. The news fits AROUND the ads. In order to get me to see the ads, the news has to be emotional, explosive, titillating, outrageous, bloody, etc. No, thank you. I don't own a television, either, for similar reasons.
Members georgestrings Posted March 19, 2009 Members Posted March 19, 2009 Yeah, we get the local Syracuse paper delivered here 7 days a week - sure, I spend plenty of time on the net, but I also enjoy reading the paper - and it is nice to take with you for appointments, etc... - georgestrings
Members hawkhuff Posted March 19, 2009 Members Posted March 19, 2009 I read them occasionally but I hardly ever subscribe. They are for the oldsters and will be eventually phased out. The new and most important source of news today is John Stewart, Colbert and now Leno.

Members 82Daion Posted March 19, 2009 Members Posted March 19, 2009 The local daily isn't any good. I still pick up the "artsier" biweekly and daily student paper, which are free. They're still a valuable source for community discourse, and I enjoy being able to read them without staring at a monitor. I get my "current" national news from the New York Times and CNN online.
Members dionysusolympus Posted March 19, 2009 Members Posted March 19, 2009 in terms of a physical newspaper, i would say no, but i do subscribe to a couple of papers online.
Moderators isaac42 Posted March 19, 2009 Moderators Posted March 19, 2009 Newspapers give a detailed run-down of what happened yesterday...in a form that's easy to take anywhere. Like the bathroom. The big newspapers in the big cities I can see being in trouble. But out here in the sticks they're still very viable as for many it's still the main source of their news plus the coupon inserts and local items, plus the sports pages with the high-school scores etc etc. The newspapers out here will be around for quite a while...but the big-boys are certainly in trouble. Not to mention the daily crossword puzzles. Yeah there are online crosswords, but really there's nothing like taking pencil to paper. My wife does them in pen.
Members Svi Posted March 19, 2009 Members Posted March 19, 2009 Sunday Trib only, so I can get the coupons and crossword. I use the rest of the paper to light my chimney starter for the grill.
Members Jazz Ad Posted March 19, 2009 Members Posted March 19, 2009 Seriously, who's got the time to read a daily newspaper? They belong to the 20th century as far as I'm concerned.Weekly news magazines, sure I read them. For daily news I have radio and internet.
Members NeonVomit Posted March 19, 2009 Members Posted March 19, 2009 I voted BOALG, because I don't have a subscription per se, but I read the same papers virtually every single day, as they get left behind on the trains and buses.

Members Super_Donut_Man Posted March 19, 2009 Members Posted March 19, 2009 Well, I would, but my local one kinda sucks.
