I thought all we needed to do was talk to these people. You know, N Korea, Venezuela, Hamas, Iran.... You know, sit down face to face with them. Easy.

Oh yeah, that's right, they're CRAZY!

This aspect of foreign relations is something I expected. The days of diplomacy actually achieving something useful seem to be over. Or perhaps it's just that the crazies are still in need of a genuine beat-down, not a simple US invasion followed by us kissing asses and rebuilding....maybe they need a Russian or Chinese invasion to get a refresher on what war is really like.

UPDATE: Rep Frank Demands Cancellation Of Fannie, Freddie Bonuses

Dow Jones

March 20, 2009: 06:25 PM ET

By Jessica Holzer

Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- U.S. House Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., called on the regulator for Fannie Mae (FNM) and Freddie Mac (FRE) to cancel employee bonuses under the companies' retention programs.

In a letter Friday, Frank urged Federal Housing Finance Agency Director James B. Lockhart to rescind any bonuses already paid under the program and to stop any further payments.

"The public, having provided significant support for the purpose of restoring trust and confidence in our country's financial system, rightfully insists that large bonuses such as these awarded by institutions receiving public funds at a time of a serious economic downturn cannot continue," Frank wrote in the letter.

The move comes after $165 million in bonuses paid to employees at American International Group Inc.'s (AIG) Financial Products division ignited a political firestorm this week. The House on Thursday approved legislation to tax at 90% any bonuses to employees earning more than $250,000 at firms that have received at least $5 billion in aid from the government's financial rescue program....

It turns out that Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae employees are in line for some $500 million in bonuses and retention. After publicly showing his ignorance over AIG employee contracts (Congress and Obama knew about the bonuses before they voted on the bailouts), and somewhat forced by talk radio hosts, Frank has changed his focus onto the bonuses due to Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, which are more than DOUBLE what AIG bonuses would have been.

I am assuming that their employees have written contracts, too, which the government must enforce and cannot change until that contract is over. You cannot tax a specific group of people because you don't like their contracts that you voted to accept and bailout.

What a country!!!

Tip for Mr. Frank - READ THE DAMNED CONTRACTS BEFORE VOTING ON ANYTHING. You have been posted all over the internet praising Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae and questioning WHY Republicans would waste everyone's time, meeting with those CEO's.

Please, get a clue.

Barney Frank is a joke of a man, and an even worse politician. Your chair of the House Financial Services Committee and yet this economic quagmire has NOTHING to do with you, as you continously claim. Common Massachusetts you can do better!

Iran told him to take a flyer too... good stuff and welcome to the big leagues!!!

Us crazies have been saying this for years...that trying to talk to those crazies will never work. Did Obama really think he could make a video message, send it over to Iran, and that would begin to thaw the ice? Nothing will satisfy that lot, so forget it, Mr. President. He really needs to sit down and have a long chat with Henry Kissinger and get schooled on how this {censored} really goes down.

Yeah, I agree. Unfortunately, there will always be idealogical peaceniks who don't have a clue as to how the world works and always has worked.

...

Cheap Political Theatre

No one pushed harder than Congressman Barney Frank to force banks and other financial institutions to reduce their mortgage lending standards, in order to meet government-set goals for more home ownership. Those lower mortgage lending standards are at the heart of the increased riskiness of the mortgage market and of the collapse of Wall Street securities based on those risky mortgages.

Dodd and Frank know that the best defense is a good offense. Both know how hard it would be to defend their own roles in the housing debacle, so they go on the offensive against others who are in no position to reply in kind, given the vindictive powers of Congress.

What? Everyone likes to kick back with a beer and watch a "wrong region" message, er...um...I mean, good classic movie.

He gave them the wrong type of DVD's so they couldn't watch them if they wanted to, wrong region. Moreover, isn't it true most of those movies can now be found in the bargain basket at Walmart?

One other thought about Iran I've been kicking around. Is it not true the worst kind of infidel is the one that was Muslim then changed religions? The mullahs over there can't be all that impressed with the Teleprompter and Chief. :idk:
