chili and tabasco

First of all, one "L". OP = good, Oz/Kiwis = bad :p


Chili is the English version of the Spanish word "chile", both of which refer to the peppers.


Chiles con Carne (or the Americanized Chili con carne) is a stew/soup with peppers and meat, usually in a tomato sauce with beans. In the US, people usually refer to the dish only as "chili". It's a big part of texmex cooking.


In Mexican cuisine though, there are tons of other chile dishes, all made with the peppers (chiles en nogada is my friend's favorite food from when he studied in Mexico).
