Members wades_keys
My bassist is interested in one. Never used one myself. I've heard mixed reviews: there's better bang-for-buck choices out there for sure.

Members Thumper
Some reviews here. I have no personal experience with the newer Ampeg stuff. I've played SVTs and V4-Bs and liked them but they're completely different amps.
Members georgestrings
Like all Ampeg SS amps, they're over-priced and under-powered... I sold a Peavey T-Max to a local bassist in another band, and he turned over one of those to swing the deal - and is way happier with the T-Max than he was with the Ampeg... For that kind of money, buy a G-K 700rb-II, or a 1001rb-II - either of them will flat out spank the Ampeg in both power and tonal quality... Other better choices would be used from Genz-Benz or MarkBass... - georgestrings
Members wades_keys
Would you recommend a Carvin over it? Hard to recommend that brand due to poor customer service. I'm sure JeffBass will be along: he's our resident Carvin fanboi....

Members NeonVomit
Back when all Ampeg stuff was USA made, it was a decent enough investment, now I'm not so sure. Much better amps out there for the price, definately, like GK stuff.
Members xOriginalNinjax
I had an Ampeg B-4R. Very finicky amp, and very cab-dependent. I would honestly advise trying out something from GK (my MB2-500 is honestly nearly as loud as my B-4R was...but it may be my cab as well). Other than that, I wasn't thrilled with the tone. Moderators Kindness Posted July 13, 2009 Moderators Share Posted July 13, 2009 I personally wouldn't buy either. That's my answer too. However, if someone is looking in that range, here are other amps to look into, including the amps I've listed below: GK:http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/GallienKrueger-800RB-Bass-Head?sku=482505http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/GallienKrueger-1001RBII-70050W-Biamp-Bass-Head?sku=482588http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/GallienKrueger-Fusion-550-Hybrid-Valve-Bass-Amplifier?sku=482104http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/GallienKrueger-MB2500-500-Watt-Ultra-Light-Head?sku=481858 Genz-Benz:http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/GenzBenz-GBE-750-Bass-Amp?sku=483635http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/GenzBenz-Shuttle-600-Watt-Lightweight-Bass-Amp?sku=482110 Markbass:http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Markbass-Little-Mark-III-Bass-Amp-Head?sku=484167http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Markbass-F1-500W-Bass-Head?sku=481738http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Markbass-SD800-750W-Bass-Head?sku=481737 tc electronic:http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/TC-Electronic-RH-450-RebelHead-Bass-Amp-Head?sku=580856 Personally, I'd probably go for the Genz-Benz GBE 750.
