Members Optimus Prime
So, I've had this SVT for about a year now. I always took the tone for granted. It's the only amp I've used since getting it. My old Ashdown MAG combo has just sat next to it untouched, used more as a table. I've been actually practicing playing bass lately. Working on my improvisation skills. Working on being able to fit in better during riff-oriented jams. So I'll sit down and play the first thing that comes to mind. Improve upon it, and after 2 or 3 repetitions, I'll have a nice solid riff going on. I've improved tremendously over the past few weeks. Can't wait to jam with my drummer friend again. So, anyway, today I sat down and plugged into the Ashdown for the first time in a long while. And damn, it sounded so sterile and lifeless compared to the SVT. Terrible. You can say what you want, but the Ampeg SVT has some serious balls. It's a no contest sort of thing. I can't wait to get a new cab. A real cab. This Avatar 410 sucks so horribly. I'm either looking at an Ampeg 410 or, on the higher end, a Mesa 1200. Just thought I'd share. In other news, the way things look now, I'll be graduating high school a semester early and moving down to Key West in December. Kinda psyched about all that. Members Optimus Prime
What don't you like about the avatar cab? I'd describe the tone as rubbery. No punch. It starts to fart out on a low E. Playing in drop-D is just awful. The whole cab starts to rattle and make noise if I turn the volume to 3. And the grille rattles no matter what. Just a terrible cab. Don from LDS makes a very similar cabinet with the same (I believe) driver that'd be quite suitable too. couple 15s + SVT = delicious.

If it's an emminence driver, it's not the Reeves one. The LDS cab is nice too.

Members Optimus Prime
F'ing awesome. Probably like $1k+ though, huh? Like $1400, I think. I picked up a price sheet from a local shop about a year ago. Huge too.
Members rpsands
Meh, I don't really dig the powerhouse 410/15 cab. Not a big fan of 410/15 combo period and the way they do it is kinda weird. It sounds OK, but you could get just as much volume out of two 15s. Also, it's crazy expensive

Members FloydianAnimal
You could probably get a Powerhouse 1000 or 1200 for around 800 bucks used. There's a newer one on my local craiglist for 800 and an older one for like 500 actually... in any case, I'd prefer two 4x10's or an 8x10 myself

Members jackcheez
Try a 6 X 10 or a 4 X 12. Either one will sound mighty. I've been an SVT guy for years. I own two of them. I recently picked up an old V4B...
