David Cronenberg plans to remake his remake of the Fly!

David Cronenberg is developing a remake of his classic The Fly with Fox. He will direct and potentially write the new film.

The 1986 release, itself a remake of Kurt Neumann's 1958 sci-fi classic, starred Jeff Goldblum and became a hit for Fox.

The Fly centered on Seth Brundle (Goldblum), an eccentric scientist who, after an experiment with teleportation goes awry, is transformed into a fly. Geena Davis starred as Goldblum's love interest and partner, Veronica.

That doesn't make sense on two levels...

Remaking a remake and remaking your own film. Seriously, what's the point?

Similarly, if I remember rightly there's been talk of Sam Raimi remaking The Evil Dead for a few years too.

Talk that Bruce Campbell is quick to shoot down too FWIW. I heard it in person from him that Sam has told him he will never remake it.

Haivng said that, there IS real talk that Clive Barker wants to remake Hellraiser. Not exactly the same thing, but similar.

Now THAT one almost makes sense.

Seriously, though.... the only good thing in this story is that at least it's Cronenberg! It would be a lot worse if, say maybe Stephen Sommers, or Mark Scott Johnson (Fantastic Four) was given the shot!

Ah, OK then.

Don't {censored} with the classics.

Especially when {censored}ing with the classics entails a 3D American-style Amine version of Night Of The Living Dead.

What the {censored} is that all about??

He also said there will never be an Evil Dead 4/AoD 2.

And speaking of Fantastic Four, they are supposedly giving that franchise a reboot ala Hulk.

Now that all these darker comic book movies are doing so well, they want to start over with the FF and "do it right" this time.

But is the 76 movie a remake of the 54 film, or another remake of the 37 film? Or possibly an entirely different film? (many films share titles but not plot...)

Point taken. See also "Invasion of the Body snatchers" which I believe is on it's 8th remake now.

They share plots except that the films were "modernized".

In the 1976 version Barbara Streisand & K. Kristoferson are "Rock" stars,

but the basic plot is the same (has been star resents the success of the younger up and coming love interest's success and falls apart.)

Here's another one:

Anna and the King (1999) dir. Andy Tennant

The King and I (1982) dir. Richard Rich

The King and I (1956) dir. Walter Lang

EDIT: I'm also pretty sure that there is another version earlier then 1956 tittled Anna & The King, non musical more along the lines of the 1999 Jodie Foster thing.

stuff... escapist fantasy crap involving vampires n such... or i've been getting bleepo music industry books that are interesting so i have been chipping into those...

i'm always open to suggestions!

Hmm,

I don't know if you'd like what I read but I really enjoy Franz Kafka and Dostoevsky. I've been reading The Street of Crocodiles by Bruno Schulz. I also like Lovecraft and Poe.

If you like philosophy at all I really like the novels I've read by Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus. (Make sure it's not one of their dissertations though, unless you want to get into some heavy philosophy). On the other hand I find Nietzsche's ideas fascinating but haven't been able to make it through Thus Spoke Zarathustra.

I've got a TON of those, maybe we should swap lists. I can tell you/him which are good/bad ones from those I've bought and read so far.

sounds like an awesome idea! i need to find the one i took out from the library and get on it before it has to go back! now, to wander around my packrat box infested house and find the books that we've finished.... (btw, if i move, i never unpack. such an awful habit)

We're moving this weekend. I'm notorious for living out of boxes. I've pledged to stop that this time. After getting settled, and excluding things that are stored for intentional long-term reasons, if it's in a box, it's not being kept. I obviously didn't need it for the last 4 years since I moved into where we are now.

I went through a phase where all I read was music books. If it wasn't biographies, it was music business.
